NEW HAVEN, Conn. (August 20, 2019) -- Georgian Court University was picked as the No. 1 team in the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll, which was announced on Tuesday by Commissioner Dan Mara. GCU, which claimed last season's CACC regular season championship, earned 159 points in the voting, including six first-place votes. The voting for the poll was conducted by the league's 13 head coaches in the sport.
Rounding out the top three included reigning CACC Champion Caldwell University (2nd, 149, 4) and Goldey-Beacom College (3rd, 137, 1). Caldwell knocked off Georgian Court in last year's semifinals, and went on to win the CACC title with a victory over Holy Family University in the final. HFU was slated fourth in the 2019 preseason poll with 122 points and a pair of first-place nods. G-B advanced to the CACC semis for the second year in a row in 2018.
The 2019 CACC women's soccer season kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 5, as the regular season will be a build up to the 2019 CACCC Women's Soccer Championship on Nov. 12, 15 & 17. The top-eight teams from the regular season standings will qualify for the conference post-season tournament, as the first round will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the sites of the highest seeds. The semifinals will be played on Friday, Nov. 15, with the final to be contested on Sunday, Nov. 17. Post University will serve as the host institution for the CACC semifinals and final. The winner of the 2019 CACC Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament, which will be held the following week at a site to be determined.
