ALBANO AND SIMONETTI CLAIM CROSS COUNTRY WEEKLY HONORS
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Rob Albano of Felician College and Sarah Simonetti of Philadelphia University have claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Runner of the Week accolades for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 6. Tim Malloy and Taylor Falvey of Philadelphia University were honored as the Rookies of the Week.
Albano, a junior from Pompton Plains, N.J., finished in sixth place at the NCAA East Regional, claiming All-Region honors with a time of 31:52. He led the Golden Falcons to a seventh place finish as a team.
Simonetti, a senior from Perkasie, Pa., earned All-Region accolades by finishing in third place at the NCAA East Regional, posting a time of 22:03. She led the Lady Rams to a third place finish as a team.
Malloy, a freshman from Haddonfield, N.J., was the first CACC rookie to finish at the NCAA Regional, crossing in 40th place in 33:29.
Falvey, a freshman from York, Pa., finished in 28th place at the NCAA Regional to help lead PhilaU to third place. She clocked a time of 23:57.
Honorable Mention
Bill Steele, Wilmington (Jr., Conowingo, MD) - Finished in 14th
place at the NCAA Regional to capture All-Region honors. Completed
the course in 32:12.
James Vander Wiele, Felician (Sr., Pequannock, NJ) - Placed 23rd at
the NCAA Regional, notching a time of 32:43.
Whitney Hora, Wilmington (So., Kingsville, MD) - Finished in
seventh place at the NCAA Regional, crossing in a time of 23:09 to
earn All-Region honors.
Christina Wetzel, Philadelphia (So., Littleton, MA) - Registered a
top-10 finish at the NCAA Regional, crossing in ninth place in
23:14.
CACC Cross Country Notes
Chestnut Hill - Joseph Trujillo’s time of 35:19.50 and 97th
place finish is the best ever by any Chestnut Hill College
participant at the NCAA DII East Regional Meet.
Felician- Rob Albano and James Vander Wiele are the first two
Felician cross-country runners of either gender to attain
All-Region honors since Felician joined the NCAA in 2002. Albano's
sixth place finish finish on Sunday in Boston is a school record
for individual regional placement, bettering Vander Wiele's 22nd as
a freshman in 2008, and his time of 31:52 set a 10K school mark,
topping Vander Wiele's 32:37 from last year. Felician's seventh
place team finish is also the best for a regional in program
history.
Philadelphia - Philadelphia University took 3rd place at the NCAA
Women’s Cross Country East Reigonal. Senior Sarah Simonetti
led all runners with a third place finish overall. Christina Wetzel
also notched a top 10 finish by crossing in ninth place. Taylor
Falvey (28th) and Gabrielle Dei Tos (29th) and Chelsea Attaway
(43rd) were also among the top 50 finishers. The Philadelphia
men’s team was able to capture ninth place at the 2011NCAA
East Regional. Kip Kirui led the team with a 30th place finish.
Freshman runner and CACC rookie of the year Tim Malloy was next in
40th place. In addition PhilaU received strong performances from
teammates Tyler Dye and Eric Lacey.
