PHILADELPHIA, PA (Nov. 7, 2010) - Philadelphia University junior Sarah Simonetti earned the individual title in leading Philadelphia University to its third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's cross country championship at Belmont Plateau Sunday afternoon. The Lady Rams tallied a low 37 points, outdistancing Dominican College (88) and Wilmington University (89).
Simonetti earned her first conference individual title by
finishing with a 3 mile time of 19:28,
winning the race by almost 30 seconds and missing the CACC
championship record by only five seconds. Teammates Anjelica
DiNucci and Gabrielle Dei Tos, both juniors, and freshman Chelsea
Attaway all finished in the top ten for the Rams. The four women
were also named to the All-Conference team. Attaway earned Rookie
of the Year honors by being the first rookie to cross the finish
line. The Lady Rams have not lost to a CACC foe all season heading
into regionals.
Head Coach Dave Thomas, who is in his sixth season as head coach at PhilaU, left Belmont Plateau with accolades of his own. Thomas was named Coach of the Year for both the men and women for the second time in his career.
