TUWEI AND SIMONETTI CLAIM RUNNER OF WEEK HONORS
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Fred Tuwei of Holy Family University and Sarah Simonetti of Philadelphia University have claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Runner of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 24. Wilmington University's Austin Knight and Whitney Hora picked up Rookie of the Week accolades.
Tuwei, a senior from Nairobi, Kenya, earned a first-place finish at the Cabrini College Invitational, clocking an 8K time of 27:12.67. He led the Tigers to a fifth place finish as a team.
Simonetti, a junior from Perkasie, Pa., crossed in second place at the Cabrini Invitational, finishing in a 5K time of 19:04.78. She led the Lady Rams to the team title.
Knight, a junior from Newark, Del., finished in 26th place at the Cabrini Invitational, traversing the 8K course in 29:57.56.
Hora, a freshman from Kingsville, Md., ran a 5K time of 20:08.50 to finish in sixth place at the Cabrini Invitational. Wilmington finished second as a team.
Bill Steele, Wilmington (So., Conowingo, MD) - Finished third at the Cabrini Invitational, with a time of 27:29.70.
Rob Albano, Felician (So., Pompton Plains, NJ) - Crossed in fourth place at the Cabrini Invite in 27:36.73.
Justine Berger, Georgian Court (So., Middletown, NJ) - Finished 4th at the Cabrini Invitational in a 5K time of 20:03.88.
Danielle Riley, Wilmington (Jr. Hartly, DE) - Finished fifth at the Cabrini Invitational with a 20:04.16 clocking.
CACC Cross Country Notes
Georgian Court - The Georgian Court University cross-country squad posted a third-place finish in this weekend’s Cabrini College Invitational (5K), the squad’s best race of the season. The Lions are now off until the CACC Championship Meet on 11/7.
Felician - The Felician men put all five scorers in the top 15 in winning the Cabrini Invitational on Saturday. The Golden Falcons won two invitational events in the regular season, both at Belmont Plateau, site of the CACC Championship.
Philadelphia - The Philadelphia women claimed four of the top-ten spots to finish first overall in Saturday’s Cabrini College Cross Country Invitational at the Belmont Plateau. Junior Sarah Simonetti (19:04) finished 2nd overall and first among the Rams. Fellow juniors Gabrielle Del Tos (20:14) and Anjelica DiNucci (20:16) finished 7th and 8th, respectively. Freshman Chelsea Attaway (20:41) finished 10th. The Philadelphia men finished 3rd overall at the Cabrini Invitational. The Rams recorded two top-ten finishes in Saturday’s race. Sophomore Kip Kirui (28:30) placed first for the Rams and 8th overall. Junior Tyler Dye (28:38) followed Kirui in 9th place. The Rams will now prepare for the CACC Championships, which will take place Sunday (11/7) at the Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
