ALBANO AND SIMONETTI TABBED CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Rob Albano of Felician College and Sarah Simonetti of Philadelphia University have been tabbed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Runners of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 17. Stewart Reich of Goldey-Beacom College and Whitney Hora of Wilmington University were named Rookies of the Week.

Albano, a sophomore from Pompton Plains, N.J., crossed the finish line in second place overall in a field of 133 runners at the CTC Championships on Saturday, clocking a time of 25:59. Albano has earned Runner of the Week honors three times thus far in 2010.

Simonetti, a junior from Perkasie, Pa., placed second out of 83 entrants at the Delaware Blue and Gold Invitational. She crossed in a school record 5K time of 18:50.80. Simonetti has been selected Runner of the Week four times this season.

Reich, a freshman from Frederick, Md., finished in 21st place with a time of 29:02 at the Blue and Gold Invitational to lead GBC to a sixth-place finish. Reich has been named Rookie of the Week three times in 2010.

Hora, a freshman from Kingsville, Md., earned her eighth weekly award this season (two-time Runner of the Week, five-time Rookie of the Week). She placed sixth at the Delaware Blue and Gold Invitational, crossing the line in a 5K time of 19:46.97.

Honorable Mention

Bill Steele, Wilmington (So., Conowingo, MD) - Finished third at the Blue and Gold Invite in a time of 26:31.

Fred Tuwei, Holy Family (Sr., Nairobi, Kenya) - Finished in fourth place at the CTC Championships in a time of 26:40. 

Anjelica DiNucci, Philadelphia (Jr., Perkasie, PA) - Finished 7th at the Blue and Gold Invitational with a time of 19:53.

CACC Cross Country Notes

Georgian Court - The Georgian Court University cross-country squad, after taking a week off, returned to action Saturday morning with a fifth-place finish (out of 12 teams) at the CTC Championship 5K held at Gloucester County College. The Lions head back to familiar ground next Saturday, Philadelphia’s Belmont Plateau, for the running of the Cabrini College Invitational at 11:00 AM.

Felician - Felician senior Sarah Root (20:55) and sophomore Jackie Rivera (23:06) both posted season-best 5K times at Saturday’s CTC Championship. Root finished 15th and Rivera 56th out of 111 entrants.

Philadelphia - Records fell as the Philadelphia women’s cross country team finished second overall at the 2010 Blue & Gold Cross Country Meet at the University of Delaware. Junior Sarah Simonetti finished second overall, while setting a new school record in the 5K. Her finishing time of 18:50.80 bested the prior school record, also held by Simonetti, of 19:27. Fellow junior Anjelica DiNucci finished 7th overall with a time of 19:53, topping her previous 5K personal best of 19:55. The Philadelphia men’s team finished fourth overall at the 2010 Blue & Gold Invitational. Sophomore Kip Kirui (27:18) placed first for the Rams and 7th overall. His time was a personal best and he now ranks 6th in school history in the 8K. The Rams teams will return to action Saturday (10/23) when they will compete in the Cabrini Invitational at the Belmont Plateau. The meet is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start.
