TUWEI AND SIMONETTI CLAIM CROSS COUNTRY WEEKLY AWARDS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Fred Tuwei of Holy Family University and Sarah Simonetti of Philadelphia University have claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Male and Female Runner of the Week accolades after their performances at the NCAA Regional. Rookie of the Week honors went to Bill Steele of Wilmington University and Justine Berger of Georgian Court University.

Tuwei, a junior from Nairobi, Kenya, was the first finisher from a CACC institution at the NCAA East Regional, placing 23rd in a 10-kilometer time of 32:54.

Simonetti, a sophomore from Perkasie, PA, placed fifth at the Regional in a 6K time of 22:52 to earn a spot in next weekend's NCAA Championships at Southern Indiana University. She is the first-ever CACC runner to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field.

Steele, a freshman from Conowingo, MD, was the top CACC rookie finisher at the Regional, crossing the line in a time of 33:01 to place 26th. He was the second overall finisher from a CACC institution.

Berger, a freshman from Middletown, NJ, was the first rookie finisher from the CACC at the Regional, placing 13th in a time of 22:31. She earned All-Region honors with her performance.

Honorable Mention

Danielle Burcham, Wilmington (Sr., Bel Air, MD) Finished 10th at the NCAA Regional to earn All-Region honors for the second straight season.

Andrew Piotrowski, Philadelphia (Sr., Warminster, PA) - Placed 30th at the Regional in a time of 33:30 to lead the Rams to an eighth place finish.

CACC Notes 

Georgian Court - GCU finishes the season ranked 10th in the East Region after finishing eighth in 2008.

Philadelphia - Sophomore Sarah Simonetti became the first CACC and PhilaU men's or women's runner to advance to the NCAA National XC Championships with her fifth-place finish at the East Regionals on Sunday in Boston. She ran the 6K in 22:52 to earn a spot at Southern Indiana University on November 21st.
