D'ANDREA, SIMONETTI AND BURCHAM CLAIM CACC RUNNER OF THE WEEK HONORS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Shawn D'Andrea of Philadelphia University has claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Male Runner of the Week honors and Sarah Simonetti of Philadelphia and Danielle Burcham of Wilmington University were named co-Female Runners of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 4. Felician College freshman Rob Albano was named Male Rookie of the Week and Georgian Court University's Justine Berger picked up Female Rookie of the Week accolades.

D'Andrea, a senior from Blackwood, NJ, was the individual championship at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh, finishing the 8k course in 25:39. He led the Rams to a seventh-place finish and broke the Philadelphia school-record for fastest 8k time.

Simonetti, a sophomore from Perkasie, PA, finished third out of almost 250 competitors at the Paul Short Run. She finished the 6k course in 22:24 in leading the Lady Rams to a third place finish.

Burcham, a senior from Bel Air, MD, was the individual champion at the Belmont Classic on Saturday. She crossed the finish line in 19:52 (5k) and led the Wildcats to a first-place finish.

Albano, a freshman from Pompton Plains, NJ, placed fifth at the Paul Short Run, crossing the line in 26:04 (8k) to help the Golden Falcons place eighth as a team.

Berger, a freshman from Middletown, NJ, was the sixth finisher at the Paul Short Run, clocking a 6k time of 23:00 in leading the Lions to a ninth-place showing.

Honorable Mention

Fred Tuwei, Holy Family (Jr., Nairobi, Kenya) - Won the Belmont Classic in a 8k time of 26:31. Broke his own school record.

Bill Steele, Wilmington (Fr., Conowingo, MD) - Finished 2nd at the Belmont Classic in a time of 27:24.

Sharon Fetters, Nyack (Jr., Levittown, PA) - Placed second at the Belmont Classic in 20:30.

CACC Notes

Bloomfield - The BC men won their second meet of the season, taking top honors at the Goldey-Beacom Fall Invitational. Junior Nick Kipkosgei was the top finisher for the team, finishing in second place to record his best finish of the season. The Lady Deacons placed fifth at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational. Sophomore Mercy Puma was the group's top finisher, placing sixth.

Felician - Friday marked the first time since the 2007 NCAA Regional - a span of 12 races - that someone other than Sarah Root was Felician's frontrunner when sophomore Leslie Feola crossed the line first for the Golden Falcons at the Lehigh Paul Short Run.

Georgian Court - The Lions travel to Philadelphia Saturday to complete in the Cabrini Invitational at Belmont Plateau. The freshman trio of Justine Berger, Cynthis Cuiule and Allison Landry have been the top three finishers for the team in four of five meets this season.

Goldey-Beacom - Liz Williams became the fastest female runner at GBC on the Carousel Park course, running a personal best on Saturday of 22:53 (6k).

Holy Family - The Holy Family men's cross-country team took sixth in the Belmont Classic on Saturday. Fred Tuwei picked up his third win of 2009. He ran the course in a time of 26:31.06, breaking his own school record. Jeff Kinkaid earned his first career top-ten finish, finishing 10th with a time of 29:08.69. Holy Family will compete in the Cabrini Invitational on October 10.

Philadelphia - The men's cross country team faired well this week taking seventh place in the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University. Senior Shawn D'Andrea (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) came in first at the event while fellow senior Andrew Piotrowski (Warminster, PA/William Tennant) placed 30th. Also gaining valuable points for the team was sophomore Tyler Dye (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) who came in 35th place, senior Kirk Tencate (Wayne, NJ/ Wayne Valley) finishing 56th and Kip Kirui (Rift Valley, Kenya/Kilgoris) finishing in 73rd. The Rams will look for another strong showing at the Cabrini Invitational (10/10). The Lady Rams had a strong performance at the Paul Short Run, with sophomore Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) taking third place overall and fellow sophomore Anjelica DiNucci (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney) finishing in twelth. Other top performers were senior Faith Anderson (Dover, PA/Dover Area) in 50th, sophomore Gabrielle Dei Tos (Freeland, PA/MMI Prep) finishing 53rd, and junior Kaitlin O'Leary (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) placing in 74th. The Lady's will be back in action at the Cabrini Invitational (10/10).

USP - The Devils recorded their best finish in their 15-year history of competing at the Belmont Classic, placing second amongst the 14 schools competing. The Devils placed all seven scorers in the top 25. Saturday's second place finish marks the Devils' third consecutive race where the team has placed in the top three. The team has now recorded a third place or better finish in six of their last nine regular season races and 10 of their last 15. Freshman Christian Radzinski (Langhorne, Pa) was the only USP runner to record a personal best time in Saturday's race, completing the course in 31:22.60 for 30th place. On the women's side, USP recorded their best finish at the Belmont Classic, second place, since winning the team title outright back in 2005. Three of the Devils top four finishers ran personal best times, including USP's top finisher, senior Beth Crawford (Haddon Heights, N.J.). Saturday's second place finish is eight places better than the Devils did in last year's Belmont Classic and marks their third consecutive top five finish in a regular season race. It is the USP women's cross country team's longest streak of consecutive top-five finishes since achieving the feat in four straight races in 2006. The women's team was second amongst the five CACC schools competing behind meet champion Wilmington University.



Wilmington - The Wilmington men scored a season low 24 points en route to winning the Belmont Classic. Danielle Burcham has now finished first for the Wildcats in every race this season. She was the individual champion at the Belmont Classic on Saturday.
