ALBANO AND SIMONETTI NAMED CACC RUNNERS OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, CT - Rob Albano of Felician College and Sarah Simonetti of Philadelphia University have been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Male and Female Runners of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 20. Albano was also the Male Rookie of the Week, while Georgian Court University's Justine Berger was the Rookie pick on the women's side.

Albano, a freshman from Pompton Plains, NJ, broke the Felician school record for fastest 8,000 meter time at the NYIT Invitational, crossing in 25:54 to lead the Golden Falcons to a second place finish. He placed fourth out of 160 entrants.

Simonetti, a sophomore from Perkasie, PA, was the individual champion among Division II competition at the Delaware Invitational on Saturday. She clocked a 19:39.43 5k time in leading the Lady Rams to a first place finish as a team.

Berger, a freshman from Middletown, NJ, was the second Division II finisher at the Delaware Invitational, crossing with a 5k time of 19:55.03. She has been the Rookie of the Week every week thus far in 2009.

Honorable Mention

Fred Tuwei, Holy Family (Jr., Nairobi, Kenya) - Finished first among DII runners at the Delaware Invite.

Shawn D'Andrea, Philadelphia (Sr., Blackwood, NJ) - Finished second among DII runners at Delaware Invite.

Danielle Burcham, Wilmington (Sr., Bel Air, MD) - Was the third finisher from DII at the Delaware Invitational.

Anjelica DiNucci, Philadelphia (So., Baltimore, MD) - Placed fourth at the Delaware Invite in 20:00.76.

CACC Notes

Felician - Freshman Rob Albano set a school 8K record on Saturday at the NYIT Running of the Bears with a 25:54, becoming the first runner in program history to break 26 minutes. The Felician program began in 2000. For the FC women, sophomore Leslie Feola (21:01) and junior Kaitlyn Minehan (22:22) each set collegiate-best 5K times at the NYIT Running of the Bears on Saturday.

Georgian Court - The Lions will compete in the Philadelphia Metro Championship at Belmont Plateau this Saturday (9/26). GCU was ranked 10th in the latest USTFCCCA regional poll.

Holy Family - The Holy Family men's cross-country team came in sixth place among the Division II and III schools at the U. Delaware Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Fred Tuwei posted a school record time of 26:42.49 to win his second consecutive event. Tuwei finished fourth overall between Divisions I, II and III. Jeff Kinkaid posted an 18th place finish with a time of 28:43.46. This week, the cross country team competes in the Philly Metro Meet at the Belmont Plateau.

Philadelphia - The Rams cross country team had an excellent showing this week taking second place in the Delaware Invitational. Senior Shawn D'Andrea (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) came in second at the invitational while fellow senior Andrew Piotrowski (Warminster, PA/William Tennant) placed ninth. Also showing well for the Rams was sophomore Tyler Dye (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) who came in 13th place. The Rams will look for another strong showing at the Philadelphia Metro Championships (9/26).



The Lady Rams had a strong performance this weekend winning the Delaware Invitational with sophomore Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) taking first place overall and fellow sophomore Anjelica DiNucci (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney) finishing behind her in fourth. Other top ten finishers included senior Faith Anderson (Dover, PA/Dover Area) in eighth, sophomore Gabrielle Dei Tos (Freeland, PA/MMI Prep) finishing in ninth, and junior Kaitlin O'Leary (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) rounding out the top ten. The Lady's will be back in action at the Philadelphia Metro Championships (9/26).

Wilmington - The Wilmington men finished first among all Division II & III teams at the Delaware Invitational.  Freshman Bill Steele has now finished first for the Wildcats in every meet so far this season.
