PHILADELPHIA'S SIMONETTI TO RUN AT NCAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

BOSTON, MA - It was a history-making day at the NCAA Division II East Region Championship today as Philadelphia University sophomore Sarah Simonetti became the first male or female runner in CACC history to earn a spot in the NCAA National Championship after placing fifth in today's event.  Furthermore, four squads recorded top 10 finishes on the day.

Simonetti, a sophomore from Perkasie, PA, finished fifth overall in the women's 6K in 22:52 to advance to the national championship, which will be held on Sunday, November 21 at Southern Indiana University. 

Simonetti also clinched a spot on the NCAA All-East Region team for the second year in a row, which goes to the top 15 runners for both the men and women. Also earning All-Region honors from the CACC were Wilmington University senior Danielle Burcham (10th) and Georgian Court University freshman Justine Berger (13th). Burcham claimed the distinction for the second consecutive season.

Simonetti led Philadelphia to a fifth place finish with 188 points, while Georgian Court was 10th with 301 points.

For the men, Holy Family University's Fred Tuwei was the top finisher in 23rd place in a 10K time of 32:54.10.

Wilmington took seventh place with 226 points after being led by freshman Bill Steele, who crossed in 26th place with a 33:01.60 clocking. PhilaU took eighth overall with 259 points as senior Andrew Piotrowski led his squad taking 30th place in 33:30.
