PHILADELPHIA - University of the Sciences senior cross country runner Joy Aifuwa was amongst the seven female athletes named to the 2007 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country Team.

Aifuwa has been selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country Team in all three years since its inception in 2005, joining Carolyn Roberts of Cabrini College and Rachel Papin of LaSalle as the only three-time Women's cross Country Area All-Academic honorees.

Aifuwa (Edison High School/Edison, NJ), was the Devils top runner for the fourth consecutive season, finishing fourth or better in five of the six races she competed in. Joy Earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-CACC honors for the fourth consecutive year with a second place finish at the conference championships, the first CACC women's runner to become a four-time All-CACC honoree.

The senior harrier won the Belmont Classic (9/29) for the second time in three years while recording second place finishes at the Delaware Valley College Invitational (9/1) and the Philadelphia Metro Championships (9/22). Joy took third at the University of Delaware Invitational (9/15), fourth at the Kutztown Maroon and Gold Invitational (9/8) and sixth at the Cabrini Invitational (10/13). Aifuwa recorded her best time 5,000-meter race time of the season and her career at CACC Championships at Belmont Plateau, finishing in 19:27.03, setting a school record for the fastest 5K ever run on the Devils home course.

After a successful regular season and her second place finish at the conference championship meet, Aifuwa placed 57th overall at the NCAA East Regional meet, leading the Devils to a 20th place finish amongst the 29 teams competing. Aifuwa's time of 23:29 breaks her own school record for the fastest 6,000-meter race on any course.

Aifuwa has also excelled in the classroom, recording a 3.44 grade point average while pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She earned Dean's List honors in each of her five of her six semesters and is a two-time United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team selection (2005-06) as well as member of the 2005 CACC Fall All-Academic Team.

Joining Aifuwa on the 2006 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country Team are Jane Weber of Haverford College (Area Performer of the Year), Carolyn Lipovsky and Rachel Papin of La Salle University, Darian Lunne of Haverford College, Carolyn Roberts of Cabrini College and Alycia Tranchitella of Gwynedd-Mercy College.

The four-time All-CACC performer recently completed her fourth and final season of competition for the Devils. Aifuwa is majoring in Pharmacy while pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
