GEORGIAN COURT WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE CACC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

October 20, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Georgian Court University placed all seven of its runners in the top 20 en route to its second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Cross Country Championship today at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. The Lions scored 57 points, ahead of Felician College (72) and Wilmington University (75).

Georgian Court freshman Heather Miara won the individual championship with a meet-record time of 19:23.29 on the 5k course. For her efforts, she was also named the CACC Rookie of the Year. USP senior Joy Aifuwa earned All-CACC honors for the fourth straight season, placing second in 19:27.03. There were a number of new faces on the All-Conference team, as six of the top 15 runners were freshmen, including three of the top four finishers. Wilmington's Rory Kauffman was third in 19:40.87, while Nyack's Sharon Fetters was fourth in 19:45.48.

In addition to Miara, two other runners from Georgian Court claimed All-Conference honors in freshman Jennifer Musumeci (10th, 21:00.46) and junior Julienne Riley (13th, 21:08.64). A pack of four Lions was close behind, clinching the championship for Georgian Court. The pack finished 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th, respectively, and consisted of junior Kim Galvin (21:13.69), freshman Ammy Gutierrez (21:25.56) and seniors Adriana Correa (21:26.33) and Eileen Jemison (21:38.80).

Three Felician runners picked up All-Conference honors, including freshman Toni Fowler (6th, 19:58.01), junior Amanda Scibetta (7th, 20:39.70) and freshman Sarah Root (14th, 21:11.06).

At the conclusion of the meet, Kerwin Lanz of Georgian Court was named CACC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year and the Team Sportsmanship Award was given to Georgian Court. The head coaches conducted the voting for both awards.
