WILLARD AND KAUFFMANN CLAIM CACC CROSS COUNTRY WEEKLY AWARDS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Matt Willard of USP and Rory Kauffman of Wilmington University have claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Runner of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 16. Jay Rodgers of Felician College and Heather Miara of Georgian Court University have been named Rookies of the Week.


Willard, a sophomore from Broomall, PA, led USP to a first-place finish at the Delaware Invitational on Saturday. He placed second overall among Division II and III runners with an 8k time of 27:37.

Kauffman, a freshman froom Wilmington, DE, was the individual champion among Divsion II and III female runners at the Delaware Invitational with a 6k time of 24:20. She led the Wildcats to a second place finish.


Rodgers, a freshman from Westmont, NJ, completed the 8k course in 28:08 at the NYU Invitational to place 50th among over 230 runners. It is his first CACC Weekly award.

Miara, a freshman from Sayreville, NJ, was the top overall finisher at the Cedar Crest Invitational with a 5k time of 19:51. The Lions placed second at the meet.

Honorable Mention

Joe Debus, Wilmington (So., Middletown, DE) - Finished fourth overall at the Delaware Invitational with a time of 28:39.

Brad Schepise, Felician (So., Milltown, NJ) - Placed 35th at the NYU Invitational with a 27:46 clocking.

Joy Aifuwa, USP (Sr., Edison, NJ) - Placed third at the Delaware Invitational with a time of 24:46.

CACC Cross Country Notes

Felician - Sophomore Brad Schepise set a collegiate best 8K time. Senior Mike Burghoffer was Felician's No. 1 man in four of seven races last season, but has been second in all three starts in 2007. Schepise, who only beat Burghoffer once as a freshman, has already edged him out twice this season.

Georgian Court - The Lions fell just short of first place with a score of 47, while winner Muhlenberg College finished with 46 points. This is the highest finish so far this season for the Lions. Georgian Court will compete at the Philadelphia Metro Championships this Saturday at Belmont Plateau.

USP - For the USP men, this weekend marked its first-ever first place finish in a regular season invitational race. The Devils have now finished 1st, 2nd and 4th in their three meets this season.

Wilmington - Freshman Rory Kauffman continues her outstanding first season as she finished first overall among all Division II and Division III runners at the Delaware Invitational.
