GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY CLAIMS CACC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TITLE

October 21, 2006


WILMINGTON, DE - Georgian Court University placed six runners in the top-20 to win the 2006 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Cross Country Championship today at Carousel Park in Wilmington, DE. The Lions scored a low 61 points to defeat second-place Felician College (85) and Philadelphia University (87). Defending champion, USP, was fourth with 105 points.


Felician sophomore Amanda Scibetta was the individual champion to earn CACC Runner of the Year accolades. She crossed the finish line in 21:08.70, just ahead of USP junior Joy Aifuwa, who was second in 21:17.00. Sophomore Kara Laufer of Philadelphia was third in 21:21.74, sophomore Melissa Hale of Holy Family was fourth in 21:27.81 and Ram junior Melissa Rennekamp rounded out the top five with a 21:29.60 clocking. The top 15 finishers were named All-CACC.

Georgian Court was led by sophomore Kim Galvin, who crossed in eighth place with a time of 21:35.20. Junior Eileen Jemison was 10th (21:54.44), freshman Cortney Anderson was 12th (21:59.98) and freshman Lisa Scoppettuolo was 15th in 22:07.06. Freshman Caitlin Cranwell, Georgian Court's fifth runner, narrowly missed out on All-CACC accolades with a 16th place finish in a time of 22:07.68.

At the conclusion of the meet, Kerwin Lanz of Georgian Court was named CACC Coach of the Year and the Team Sportsmanship Award was given to Caldwell College. The head coaches conducted the voting for the awards.
