Bloomfield's Tum Breaks CACC X-C Meet Record

October 23, 2004

Felician Wins Third Team Championship

PHILADELPHIA, PA--Freshman Walter Tum of Bloomfield College broke the meet record at Saturday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Cross-Country Championship en route to being named 2004 CACC Runner of the Year and Newcomer of the Year at Belmont Plateau.

Tum completed the 8,000-meter (five-mile) course in 26 minutes, 37.55 seconds. He finished more than 42 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor, freshman Mike Burghoffer of Felician College. Seventeen runners turned in times lower than 30 minutes, the most in the five-year history of the event.

Felician put four runners in the top seven and all seven of its competitors among the top 17 to easily capture the team title. Six Golden Falcons attained all-CACC status, including Burghoffer and fourth-place finisher Sergio Zea. Felician also won the championship in 2000 and 2001.

Felician's John Brennan was named Coach of the Year by his peers. Second-place Nyack College was selected as the Team Sportsmanship Award winner. Team standings and the all-conference team are listed below. Complete results are available at http://www.geocities.com/xcresults/CACC.html.
