WILMINGTON'S SHORTER SELECTED VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Katie Shorter of Wilmington University has been selected the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 2. Amanda DeAngelo of the University of the Sciences was the pick for Rookie of the Week.

Shorter, a 6-2 sophomore middle hitter from Pasadena, Md., averaged 2.67 kills per-set at a .600 percentage, along with 1.5 blocks per-set in a 2-0 week for the Wildcats. She amassed 10 kills with no errors, one solo block and five block assists in a win over Goldey-Beacom and added six kills on 10 attempts and three blocks against Post.  

DeAngelo, a 5-11 freshman outside hitter from Vestal, N.Y., led the Devils to a 2-0 week with averages of 5.5 kills and 4.5 digs per-set. She earned a .275 attack percentage and contributed 0.50 blocks per-set. DeAngelo broke the school single-match record with 26 kills against Chestnut Hill, while adding 25 digs. The record didn't last long, as she broke it later in the week with 29 kills against Nyack.


Honorable Mention
Sarah Ambach, Holy Family (So., MB, Springboro, OH) - Averaged 2.77 kills at a .434 percentage and 0.54 blocks per-set in a 3-0 week.


Amber Mosher, Caldwell (Jr., RS, Flanders, NJ) - In a 3-1 week, posted 3.20 kills per-set at a .343 percentage, along with 0.73 blocks per-set.

 
Whitney Ranger, Dominican (Jr., S, Ventura, CA) - Averaged 9.06 assists, 2.18 digs and 1.41 kills in four matches last week.  


Alex DePalma, Chestnut Hill (So., OH, Shillington, PA) - Recorded 3.18 kills and 3.94 digs per-set in four matches last week.

 
Taylor Doyle, Post (Sr., S, Mystic, CT) - Posted 8.09 assists, 1.55 digs and 0.36 blocks per-set in a 2-1 week for the Eagles.  


Team Notes

Bloomfield - The Lady Deacons went 1-3 for the week, picking up a three-set victory over CACC North Division rival Felician College.  Junior outside hitter Clodesh Marie Montano (Carolina, P.R.) averaged an even three kills per set for the week, totaling a game-high 15 finishes against Felician.  Dominic Spivey (Newark, N.J.) also posted a strong week, averaging 2.53 kills per set, while Chereese Sheen (Queens, N.Y.) posted the highest kill total of her Bloomfield College career with 15 against Chestnut Hill College on Saturday.  Junior setter Allison Hart (Pagosa Springs, Co.) finished with a career-high 10 service aces in the five-set loss to Chestnut Hill, while Brandi Bodin (Clara City, MN) finished with 23 digs.

Caldwell - The Cougars went 3-1 last week with CACC wins over Concordia and Georgian Court, a non-conference triumph over St. Rose, and a non-lea-gue loss to Dowling. Junior right side Amber Mosher led the Cougars in kills in three of the four matches, averaging 3.20 kills per set while hitting .343 for the week. The match against Dowling was a rematch of last year's NCAA East Region first round, which was won by Dowling 3-0 en route to winning the region title. This week the Cougars take on CACC foes Dominican and Holy Family on the road while hosting NYIT at home in a non-conference match.

Chestnut Hill - Chestnut Hill College notched its third CACC win of the season with a 3-2 (18-25, 23-25, 25-12, 25-23, 15-5) victory at Bloomfield College on Saturday, October 1, and set a program record for league-wins in a season (3).

Concordia - Concordia won their first match of the season this past week, defeating Goldey-Beacom 3-2. The team will play in two games this week: hosting Dominican on Thursday and at Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.  

Felician - Senior L Ashlee DiSalvo has moved into fourth place on Felician's all-time digs list with 606. The three players ahead of her are all former teammates who graduated in May.

Georgian Court - The Lions have lost five straight and 10 of their last 11 matches. GCU looks to right the ship with a non-conference match vs. Kutztown University on Monday night and a CACC contest vs. Post University Saturday afternoon, both in the Wellness Center.

Holy Family - Holy Family (11-9, 8-0 CACC) extended its winning streak to six games after picking up victories against Georgian Court (3-2), Chestnut Hill (3-1) and Dominican (3-1) this past week. Sophomore Sarah Ambach led the team with 36 kills (2.77 k/s) and had a hitting percentage of .434 after committing only three errors in 13 sets last week.  She tallied 13 kills in the matches against Chestnut Hill and Dominican.

Post - The Eagles had a 2-1 week this week and had a four game win streak going until they faced Wilmington at home on Saturday. Taylor Doyle registered 89 assists on the week, which is only 165 shy of reaching 3,000 career assists. This week, the Eagles play Felician, Nyack, and Georgian Court with the Nyack game being played at home.

USciences - Freshman Amanda DeAngelo (Vestal, N.Y.) set a new single match record (current scoring format) for kills on Tuesday vs. Chestnut Hill with 26 and then broke her own record on Saturday when she had 29 against Nyack. DeAngelo also became the first volleyball player in school history to have 20+ kills and 20+ digs in two consecutive matches. Sophomore Diana Solomon (East Islip, N.Y) has moved into 18th place on the Devils all-time kill list this week and now has 193 for her career. Solomon and freshman Kaileen Bevenour (Sicklerville, N.J.) have also moved into the top 15 on the Devils all-time assist list. Bevenour is 12th with 239 and Solomon 14th with 176. Junior Stacey Wooden had four aces on Saturday to move into 19th place on the Devils all-time list with 57 for her career. Wooden also moved into 7th  place on the Devils all-time dig list this week with 872 for her career.  

Wilmington – Wilmington came from behind on multiple occasions last week, including winning a set after being down 24-22 to Goldey-Beacom. Against Post, four Wildcats hit at least .400. Shannon Rumple is closing in on her 2,000th career assist.
