THREE SOUTH DIVISION TEAMS ADVANCE TO CACC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINALS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 8, 2011) – Three South Division teams advanced to the semi-finals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Tournament, which began Tuesday night with quarter-final action. Holy Family University, Philadelphia University, Wilmington University and Caldwell College all advanced to Friday's semi-finals at Georgian Court University.

Caldwell (24-4), the top seed in the North and top overall seed, upended South #4 Chestnut Hill College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-8). Junior Susan McDonough finished with a match-high 16 kills and 13 digs while hitting .609 to lead Caldwell. Brittany Denter added seven kills, while Becca Feczer had six kills and a .357 hitting percentage. Senior setter Lauren Roth dished out 38 assists, including 15 in the first set, and had five digs. Cassie Benson paced the Griffins (13-19) with seven kills and a .636 hitting percentage.

The win helped the Cougars set a program record with 11 wins in a row while tying the mark for most victories in a season (24). The win also marked the final match in the Newman Center for seniors Denter, Roth, Cory Fallon and Elise Lennon. The senior class won four CACC North Division titles and compiled a record of 87-35 so far.

Caldwell advances to the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 11 to face the No. 2 seed in the South, Philadelphia, which topped Nyack College, 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17) in the quarter-finals. The match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J.

The duo of sophomore outside hitter Brittany Olson and junior outside hitter Danielle Carney once again led PhilaU against Nyack. Olson led the team in kills with 20. Senior setter Adrienne Stigura and sophomore setter Heather Martin lent a helping hand for the Rams, with Stigura tallying 24 assists while Martin delivered 20. Defensively for the Rams, junior setter/libero Morgan McCarthy completed a team-high 19 digs. Carney had 15 digs on the evening.  Olson and Martin each ended with 14 digs and the team had seven blocks.

The South No. 1 seed Holy Family (24-10) had little trouble with the No. 4 seed from the North, Post University (8-21), in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-13) victory. Alyssa Keihl led the way with 13 digs at a .300 percentage and six digs, while Devyn Ingram tallied seven kills and six digs. Jordan Beland led the team with nine digs, while Rebecca Tett and Jillian Keeve each tallied five kills. Emily Wilman had six kills for the Eagles. Holy Family will face the No. 3 seed from the South, Wilmington, in the semi-finals Friday at 7:30 pm.

Wilmington (20-9) won a road match at N#2 Dominican College, 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21) in the quarter-finals. Junior Nicole Wiechecki led with 15 kills at a .279 percentage, and 17 digs, while Brittany Biddle and Brooke Foskey both registered 12 kills for the Wildcats. Kim Shropshire led the team with 16 digs and Shannon Rumple contributed 34 assists and 13 digs. Junior Michelle Fiorvanti led the Chargers (18-14) with 18 kills and 13 digs, while Kayle Dexter added 12 kills. Jordyn Fuller had a match-high 20 digs and Whitney Ranger tallied 41 assists and 15 digs.
