WIECHECKI GARNERS CACC VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY AWARD

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Nicole Wiechecki of Wilmington University has garnered volleyball Player of the Week accolades this week in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). Leanna Lillge of Philadelphia has picked up Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week.

Wiechecki, a 5-6 sophomore outside hitter from Wilmington, Del., led the Wildcats to a 3-1 week with averages of 2.57 kills, 2.64 digs and 0.71 service aces per-set. She was named to the All-Tournament team at the American International Tournament after posting double-doubles against Molloy and UMass-Lowell.

Lillge, a 5-10 freshman from Ixonia, Wisc., averaged 3.86 kills and 5.14 digs per-set in a 1-1 week for the Lady Rams. She notched 16 kills and 19 digs against Kutztown and added 11 kills and 17 digs in a sweep over Philadelphia Biblical University.

Honorable Mention 

Lauren Roth, Caldwell (Jr., S, 5-8, Findlay, OH) - Averaged 10.00 assists and 2.0 digs per-set in a 1-1 week for the Cougars. 

Nicole Degenhardt, Felician (Sr., S, 5-6, Secaucus, NJ) - Dished out 8.00 assists per-set last week and became first FC player to record 2,000 in a career.

Cady Rich, USci (Sr., MB, 6-0, Shelton, CT) - In the team’s season-opener, tallied eight kills in ten attempts without committing an error vs. Cheyney. 

Bloomfield - The BC women’s volleyball team opened their season this week, falling in three matches. Sophomore Da’Cheray Thomas was the top offensive weapon for the Lady Deacons over the three-game span, posting 26 total kills, while Suzy Zanette posted 18 kills. Brittany Devries led the defensive effort with 27 total digs for the week. The team opened its CACC schedule Wednesday night against Dominican College, falling 3-1.

Caldwell - The Cougars recorded another non-conference win on the road with a 3-0 sweep of NYIT on Wednesday. Sophomore outside hitter Susan McDonough had a team-high 11 kills, while junior middle blocker Titilola Alao registered eight kills and four blocks. Junior setter Lauren Roth racked up 38 assists in the win. This week Caldwell begins CACC play with conference matches at Bloomfield on Tuesday and at Dominican on Friday.

Felician - Senior S Nicole Degenhardt became the first player in Felician history to surpass 2,000 career assists with a 49-assist, 15-dig effort in a five-set home victory over Nyack. She has 2,006 assists in 83 matches.

Georgian Court -  The Lions are 0-8 for the first time since starting the 2006 campaign at 0-9. GCU, just four victories short of the national record for consecutive conference wins (77), opens the CACC portion of its schedule with road contests at Chestnut Hill (Tuesday) and Holy Family (Friday).

Philadelphia - It was a 1-1 week for the Lady Rams, who fell short to Kutztown University at home but defeated Philadelphia Biblical in a 3-0 shutout on the road. Upcoming matches this week include Wilmington University at home (9/14) and traveling to USciences (9/17), Concordia College (9/18) and Georgian Court University (9/20). 

USciences - Freshman Lauren Mobley (Oxford, Pa.) broke the school record for service aces in a match with 15 against Cheyney University on Saturday, erasing the previous high of 14 set back in 2004 by Emily Roth under the old 30-point format. The 15 aces is also a school record for a three-set match. On the subject of aces, senior Christine Puschak (Leola, Pa.) became just the third Devils volleyball player to record 150 career aces, recording four on Saturday to give her 151 for her career. The Devils recorded 29 aces against Cheyney, breaking the old school record of 23 in a match set back in 2004 vs. Felician. The Devils open conference play this Friday with a match at home against Philadelphia University.
