A TRIO OF CACC VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS EARN DAKTRONICS ALL-REGION HONORS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Nov. 29, 2010) – Three volleyball student-athletes from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) institutions have been named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II Volleyball All-East Region team. Caldwell College's Titilola Alao, Georgian Court University's Stephanie Rivera and Dominican College's Michelle Fiorvanti all earned second team status. The team was selected by the sports information directors of East Region schools. The East Region consists of the CACC, the Northeast-10 Conference and the East Coast Conference.

This is the second year in a row on the All-East Region second team for Alao, who was chosen the CACC Player of the Year earlier this month. Alao, a junior middle hitter from Ossining, NY, turned in another outstanding season and led the CACC in hitting percentage (.324) while ranking among the conference leaders in kills (2.90) and blocks (0.74) per set. Alao helped lead the Cougars to their first CACC Tournament championship, recording 13 kills and a .393 hitting percentage in a semi-final victory over Philadelphia before contributing eight kills in the finals against Holy Family University. The conference championship qualified the Cougars for their first NCAA Division II East Region Tournament, where they lost to top-seeded Dowling College in three sets on Nov. 18. Alao had nine kills and hit .375 in the loss.

Rivera, who hails from Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, was a 2010 All-CACC First Team member and ranked second on the Lions with 249 kills and 76 blocks, 39 of which were of the solo variety. Rivera's hitting percentage of .243 ranked among the CACC's Top-10, as did her 0.67 blocks-per-set. Rivera, a senior middle hitter, was a first team All-Region pick last season and was a second team selection in 2008 as a sophomore.

Fiorvanti, a sophomore outside hitter from Commack, NY, led the Lady Chargers and ranked seventh in the CACC in kills with 2.75 per-set this season.  She recently received All-CACC Honorable Mention honors and was the CACC Co-Rookie of the Year and an All-CACC second team pick in 2009.
