2009 CACC Volleyball Weekly Award Winners
Aug. 31
Player of the Week: Celena Rendon, Philadelphia (Sr., OH, 5-9, San Antonio, TX) - Led the Lady Rams to a 2-1 week with averages of 3.00 kills and 3.12 digs per-set. She notched 16 kills and 14 digs in a CACC-opening victory over Goldey-Beacom.
Rookie of the Week: Monica Dempsey, Goldey-Beacom (Fr., S, 5-7, Secaucus, NJ) - Averaged 7.7 assists and 3.14 digs per-set in a 1-1 week for the Lightning. Opened her collegiate career strong by registering 28 assists and 20 digs against Philadelphia.
Sept. 8
Player of the Week: Janelle Murdock, Georgian Court (Sr., OH, 5-7, Manahawkin, NJ) - Posted 16 kills, nine digs and three service aces, along with a .281 attack percentage, in Georgian Court's 3-1 win over Queens College. It was GCU's first victory of the season.
Rookie of the Week: Michelle Fiorvanti, Dominican (Fr., OH, 5-9, Commack, NY) - Helped lead Dominican to a 2-1 week with averages of 3.33 kills, 1.67 digs and 0.50 service aces per-set. Recorded 22 kills and seven digs in a CACC-opening victory over Goldey-Beacom.
Sept. 14
Player of the Week: Janelle Murdock, Georgian Court (Sr., OH, 5-7, Manahawkin, NJ) - Posted averages of 3.52 kills and 2.0 digs per-set to go with a .248 attack percentage in five matches. Recorded 24 kills at a .488 hit percentage and 10 digs in a five-set win over UMass-Lowell. She also had 11 kills, eight digs and two blocks against Rollins.
Rookie of the Week: Jenna Matesic, Felician (Fr., OH, 5-9, Paramus, NJ) - Averaged 2.36 kills and 2.36 digs per-set in three matches. Recorded 13 kills, 15 digs and three blocks in a victory over Mercy. It was Felician's first-ever non-conference triumph.
Sept. 21
Player of the Week: Titilola Alao, Caldwell (So., MB, 5-10, Ossining, NY) - Averaged 2.69 kills and 1.12 blocks per-set in a 2-2 week for the Cougars, including two wins over CACC North Division foes. Set a career-high with 21 kills at a .436 hitting percentage against Stonehill and had seven blocks and seven kills in a 3-0 win over Bloomfield.
Rookie of the Week: Susan McDonough, Caldwell (Fr., OH, 5-9, Saline, MI) - Posted 2.88 kills and 3.12 digs per-set in four matches last week. She led the Cougars in kills in conference wins over Bloomfield and Dominican and notched 15 kills and 15 digs vs. Molloy.
Sept. 28
Player of the Week: Lisamary Figueroa, Georgian Court (Sr., S, 5-6, Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) - Led the Lions to a 3-0 week with averages of 8.75 assists, 3.42 digs, 1.08 kills and 0.33 service aces per-set. She collected 55 assists and 26 digs in a 3-2 triumph at Philadelphia. Added 35 assists and 11 digs in a 3-1 road win at Caldwell. GCU handed both Philadelphia and Caldwell their first conference losses of the season.
Rookie of the Week: Michelle Fiorvanti, Dominican (Fr., OH, Commack, NY) - Recorded 4.93 kills at a .353 hitting percentage and 3.86 digs per-set in a 2-1 week. Notched 24 kills and 11 digs against Holy Family and 25 kills and 26 digs in a 5-set thriller over NYIT.
Oct. 5
Co-Players of the Week: Nicole Berkstresser, Philadelphia (Sr., RS, 6-1, Bridgewater, NJ) and Titilola Alao, Caldwell (So., MB, 5-10, Ossining, NY) - Both Berkstresser and Alao led their respective teams to 3-0 record's last week. Berkstresser averaged 3.80 kills at a .429 hitting percentage, to go with 0.60 blocks and 0.50 service aces per-set. She posted 14 kills and three blocks against both Goldey-Beacom and Holy Family. Alao averaged 3.78 kills at a .569 attack percentage and 0.78 blocks per-set in three matches. She registered 16 kills and no errors for a .762 hitting percentage in a sweep of Goldey-Beacom and added 11 kills, six total blocks and a .533 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win at Concordia.
Rookie of the Week: Susan McDonough, Caldwell (Fr., OH< 5-9, Saline, MI) - Averaged 3.12 kills at a .245 attack percentage and 3.75 digs per-set in heling lead the Cougars to a 3-0 week. Recorded 17 digs and seven kills against Goldey-Beacom and had nine kills versus both Post and Concordia.
Oct. 12
Player of the Week: Shannon Rumple, Wilmington (So., S, 5-9, Fallston, MD) - Led Wilmington to a 3-0 week with averages of 10.11 assists, 2.6 digs, 1.0 service aces and 0.22 blocks per-game. She recorded 33 assists and nine digs against Felician and 23 assists and seven digs in a sweep over USP. She added 35 assists in a sweep over Mercy.
Rookie of the Week: Courtney Heard, Dominican (Fr., MB, 5-9, Ventura, CA) - Helped lead the Chargers to a 3-0 week with averages of 2.55 kills, 0.36 blocks, 0.73 digs and a .278 hitting percentage. Tied her career-high with 14 kills at Nyack and collected a match-high nine kills in a sweep of Bloomfield.
Oct. 19
Player of the Week: Katie Hornback, Holy Family (So., OH, 5-10, Indianapolis, IN) - Led the Tigers to a 3-1 week with averages of 3.54 kills at a .330 hitting percentage, along with 1.92 digs, 0.31 blocks and 0.23 service aces per-game. Registered 16 kills and 10 digs against Goldey-Beacom and 12 kills and eight digs versus Bloomfield.
Rookie of the Week: Michelle Fiorvanti, Dominican (Fr.., OH, 5-9, Commack, NY) - Averaged 3.90 kills at a .281 hitting percentage, 2.20 digs and 0.30 blocks per-game in a 3-0 week for the Lady Chargers. Posted match-highs of 16 kills against Caldwell and 14 at Wilmington.
Oct. 27
Player of the Week: Ursula Pereira, Bloomfield (Sr., MB/RS, 5-11, Belo Horizonte, Brazil) -Averaged 5.33 kills per-game last week along with a .278 attack percentage, 1.75 digs and 0.92 blocks per-game. Recorded 29 kills and 11 digs in a tough 3-2 loss to Philadelphia and added 22 kills (.526 hitting percentage) and seven blocks in a win over Felician.
Rookie of the Week: Susan McDonough, Caldwell (Fr., OH, 5-9, Saline, MI) - Posted averages of 3.77 kills, 3.08 digs and 0.54 blocks per-game in a 3-1 week for the Cougars. Registered 15 kills to lead the team past USP and registered 16 kills and 11 digs vs. Nyack.
Nov. 2
Player of the Week: Susan McDonough, Caldwell (Fr., OH, 5-9, Saline, MI) - Led the Cougars to a 4-0 week with averages of 3.75 kills at a .220 attack percentage, along with 3.25 digs and 0.75 blocks per-set. Had 17 kills in a sweep of Wilmington and 11 kills, 12 digs and four blocks against Southern Connecticut State.
Rookie of the Week: Michelle Fiorvanti, Dominican (Fr., OH, 5-9, Commack, NY) - Averaged 3.83 kills at a .341 attack percentage, and 1.50 digs per-set in a 1-1 week for the Lady Chargers. She recorded 17 kills in a sweep over Felician.
Nov. 9
Player of the Week: Susan McDonough, Caldwell (Fr., OH, 5-9, Saline, MI) - Averaged 4.33 kills at a .283 attack percentage and 4.17 digs per-set in a 2-0 week for the Cougars. Also contributed 1.0 aces per-set. Tallied 17 kills and 11 digs in a win over Chestnut Hill and added nine kills and 14 digs against Molloy.
Rookie of the Week: Whitney Ranger, Dominican (Fr., S, 5-8, Ventura, CA) - Averaged 9.67 assists, 2.67 kills (.727 attack percentage) and 2.00 digs per-set last week. Tallied a match-high 29 assists against Nyack.
Nov. 16
Player of the Week: Brandi Arsenault, Georgian Court (Fr., OH, 5-11, Pine Beach, NJ) - Was named the CACC Tournament MVP after helping lead the Lions to their fourth consecutive conference championship. Averaged 2.2 kills at a .360 hitting percentage in three tournament games, including nine kills at a .280 percentage in the championship match.
Rookie of the Week: Susan McDonough, Caldwell (Fr., OH, 5-9, Saline, MI) - Averaged 3.71 kills and 3.14 digs per-set in two CACC Tournament matches. She hit for a .246 attack percentage and was named to the All-Tournament team.
