CALDWELL, N.J. (July 23, 2009) - The
Caldwell College volleyball team is adding two student-athletes to
the program this fall, head coach Megan Hrbek
announced. Maddy Amon, a libero from Louisville,
Ky., and Susan McDonough, an outside hitter from
Saline, Mich., will join 12 returning players from last year's
squad that went 18-11 and captured the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference North Division crown.
"We are excited to bring in two quality ball-control players like
Maddy and Susan," Hrbek said. "They will instantly improve our
passing and defense, which were areas that we needed to
address."
Amon attended Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando, Fla.,
for her junior and senior years and was named first team
all-Central Florida in 2008. She also was selected her team's most
valuable player as a senior. A two-year captain at Bishop Moore,
Amon helped her club team, Inland Volleyball Club, capture the 2009
Central Florida championship and qualify for Junior Olympic
Volleyball Championships.
McDonough received all-state honorable mention as a senior
co-captain at Saline High School. Also a defensive specialist,
McDonough earned all-region and all-conference honors as a junior
and senior. She helped Saline win a conference title in 2006 and
tie for the conference crown in 2007. McDonough also plays for
Huron Valley Volleyball Club, which placed second at the East Coast
Championships in 2008.
The Cougars begin the 2009 season on Sept. 4 at the University of
Bridgeport Tournament in Bridgeport, Conn.
