GCU'S MURDOCK EARNS VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES

NEW HAVEN, CT - Georgian Court University's Janelle Murdock has
earned Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Player of the Week
accolades for the week ending Monday, Sept. 7. Michelle Fiorvanti
of Dominican College was the choice for Rookie of the Week.
Murdock, a 5-7 senior outside hitter from Manahawkin, NJ, posted 16 kills, nine digs and three service aces, along with a .281 attack percentage, in Georgian Court's 3-1 win over Queens College. It was GCU's first victory of the season.
Fiorvanti, a 5-9 freshman outside hitter from Commack, NY, helped lead Dominican to a 2-1 week with averages of 3.33 kills, 1.67 digs and 0.50 service aces per-set. She recorded 22 kills and seven digs in a CACC-opening victory over Goldey-Beacom.
Honorable Mention
Whitney Ranger, Dominican (Fr., S, 5-8, Ventura, CA) - Averaged 11.0 assists and 2.50 digs in a 2-1 week.
Nicole Berkstresser, Philadelphia (Sr., RS, 6-1, Bridgewater, NJ) - Helped lead PhilaU to a 5-0 week, including wins over West Chester and Kutztown.
Tiffany Jackson, Bloomfield (Sr., OH, 5-8, Central Islip, NY) - Led Bloomfield with 14 kills in a 3-2 loss to NYIT.
Katherine Tohanczyn, Chestnut Hill (So., S, 5-7, Hatfield, PA) - Led CHC to a 2-0 week with six kills, 23 assists, seven aces, 10 digs and a block.
CACC Notes
Bloomfield - The Lady Deacons lost two matches to open the 2009 campaign. After falling in their season-opener to West Chester, the Lady Deacons lost a tough 3-2 battle with NYIT. The team returns to action Thurday, Sept. 10 against Dominican in its conference opener at 7:00 pm.
Caldwell - The Cougars opened the 2009 season at the Bridgeport Tournament last weekend, beating Holy Family and losing to the host Purple Knights, UMass-Lowell and Merrimack. In the non-conference win over Holy Family, sophomore middle blocker Titilola Alao had a match-high 16 kills, while freshman outside hitter Susan McDonough recorded 11 kills and 14 digs. Caldwell plays four matches at the East Stroudsburg Tournament next weekend.
Chestnut Hill - With wins on back-to-back nights, the Chestnut Hill matched its win total from last season. The Griffins rallied for a 3-1 win, to top Rosemont College 25-18, 25-13, and 25-16 on Wednesday evening. They beat Gwynedd-Mercy College 3-0 on Tuesday night with wins in the first two games by 25-22 finals, before closing out the match 3-0 with a 25-19 win in game three.
Felician - For the first time since their inaugural season of 2004, the Golden Falcons opened the year at home, dropping both ends of a tri-match to Molloy and AIC.
Holy Family - Holy Family women's volleyball was swept at the Bridgeport Tournament over the weekend. The Tigers lost its opening match to Caldwell, 3-2. Then, Holy Family lost 3-0 in Merrimack, UMass-Lowell and Bridgeport. Outside hitter Jill Keeve led the offense with 33 kills and .224 hitting percentage. Setter Aimee Drabyn recorded 103 assists in the four matches. Libero Jordan Beland added 52 digs. This week, the Tigers open their conference schedule on Wednesday against Chestnut Hill. Then, the team will spend the weekend at East Stroudsburg for the East Stroudsburg Tournament.
Philadelphia - Philadelphia is off to its best start in recent memory, currently riding a seven-game win streak. With a Kutztown Invitational title fresh in their minds, the Lady Rams will prepare for a date with Lincoln University (9/9) at 7 p.m. on the road.
