CALDWELL AND GEORGIAN COURT CLAIM TOP SEEDS FOR CACC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
NEW HAVEN, CT (November 9, 2009) - For the second consecutive season, Caldwell College and Georgian Court University will be the top seeds for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Tournament, which is set to begin Tuesday, Nov. 10. Caldwell won the CACC North Division regular-season championship, while GCU won the South Division. The semi-final and championship rounds of the tournament will be hosted by Georgian Court in Lakewood, NJ.

Dominican College is the No. 2 seed in the North Division, Post University is third and Nyack College is fourth. In the South, Philadelphia University is No. 2, Holy Family University is No. 3 and the fourth seed will be the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
Georgian Court went through the CACC regular-season unbeaten for the third straight year and has now won 70 straight conference matches. The Lions enter the tournament 24-9 overall and 19-0 in the CACC. GCU has won the last three CACC Championships, including
a 3-0 win over Philadelphia last season. Senior Lisamary Figueroa ranks second in the CACC with 8.85 assists per-match, junior Stephanie Rivera stands fifth with a .248 hitting percentage and senior outside hitter Janelle Murdock is eighth with 2.91 kills per-match. The Lions will face USP on Tuesday at 7:00 pm in a quarter-final match. GCU upended USP twice this season by 3-0 scores. USP went 10-9 in conference play this season and is 10-15 overall.
Caldwell won its second straight North Division title with a 16-3 conference record and a 20-11 overall mark. The Cougars will be led by sophomore Titilola Alao, who ranks fourth in the conference in hitting percentage (.256), sophomore Lauren Roth, who stands fourth in assists (8.45) and freshman Susan McDonough, who contributes 2.98 kills per-match to stand sixth. The Cougars will face Nyack in the opening round on Tuesday. Caldwell defeated the Warriors twice in the regular-season by 3-0 scores. Nyack enters the week with a 10-12 record after gong 9-10 in the CACC.
Philadelphia claimed the South's No. 2 seed by virtue of a 17-2 conference record along with a 30-5 overall mark. Philadelphia's only two conference losses came to Georgian Court. Senior Nicole Berkstresser ranks third in the CACC with a .256 hitting percentage, while Molly Malone leads the conference in blocks per-match (1.05) and senior Celena Rendon provides the most service aces with 0.69 per-contest. The Lady Rams will face Holy Family in the quarter-finals. The Tigers went 11-8 in conference play and is 14-21 overall.
Dominican is one of the most improved teams in the country, compiling a 15-4 conference record and a 21-9 overall mark a year after going 2-25 overall and 2-15 in the CACC. Freshman Whitney Ranger leads the CACC in hitting percentage (.303) and is third in assists (8.63), while classmate Michelle Fiorvanti ranks second in kills (3.17). The Chargers will face Post in the quarter-finals. DC defeated the Eagles twice in the regular-season, at home (3-1) and on the road (3-0). Post enters the tournament 9-26 overall and 9-10 in conference play.
