GEORGIAN COURT EARNS NO. 5 SEED FOR NCAA NORTHEAST REGION VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

November 14, 2007

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Georgian Court University volleyball team has earned the No. 5 seed for the upcoming 2007 NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament. The tournament is being hosted by top-seeded Dowling College in Oakdale, NY. The Lions will face No. 4 Bentley College on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 5:00 pm.

A total of 64 teams were selected by the NCAA Volleyball Committee to enter this year's tournament. The committee chooses eight teams from each region; the Pacific, South, South Central, Southwest, Northeast, North Central, Great Lakes, and Atlantic.

The Lions are coming off their second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Championship, which they won by a score of 3-1 over Holy Family. Georgian Court went 18-0 in regular-season conference play this season and is 30-8 overall.

Georgian Court is paced by junior outside hitter Ann Casado, who was named the CACC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Casado, who hails from Brick, NJ, finished the regular season ranked third in the CACC in hitting percentage (.291) and kills per-game (3.95) and second in service aces (0.71). She also posted an average of 2.50 digs per-game to rank second on the team. Junior middle blocker Crystal Murdock was also a first team All-CACC selection, while head coach Francisco Casado garnered CACC co-Coach of the Year accolades.

Bentley enters the tournament with a 23-9 overall record after finishing second in the Northeast-10 Conference regular-season standings with a 13-1 mark. The Falcons fell to Merrimack in the semifinals of the NE-10 Tournament. Bentley will be led by NE-10 Player of the Year, senior middle hitter Christina Sadowski.

Georgian Court was the No. 8 seed for last year's regional tournament and fell to top-seeded Dowling in the first round, 3-0. This is GCU's second-ever appearance in the tournament.
