GEORGIAN COURT FALLS TO BENTLEY, 3-2, AT NCAA VOLLEYBALL REGIONAL

November 15, 2007

OAKDALE, N.Y. - Twenty kills from senior Christina Sadowski and 57 assists from junior setter Tori Piskulick helped Bentley outlast Georgian Court, 3-2, in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Northeast Regional Thursday night at St. John's Eastern Long Island Campus.

Bentley won a back-and-forth match by scores of 22-30, 30-14, 31-29, 29-31 and 15-12. Georgian Court, the tourney's fifth seeded, finished its season at 30-9.

The decisive fifth game was much like most of the match, with one team in control for a stretch, the other bouncing back with a strong flurry and then the other regaining the advantage.

In this case, Bentley used an 8-2 run to open a 10-4 lead. Georgian Court nearly matched it with an 8-3 run of its own, cutting the Falcon lead to one, 13-12.

Junior outside hitter Susan Harrahy sent the game to match point with her 16th kill, and the match ended on an attack error by the Lions.

The first game was all Georgian Court, as Bentley gave up 16 points on errors and the Lions led by as many as 12 points (21-9) before prevailing by eight. Game two was just the opposite as the Falcons dominated, getting out to a 19-7 start.

In the pivotal third game, a kill and an ace from junior outside hitter Ann Casado gave GCU a 29-28 lead. After a serving error kept the Falcons alive, a Harrahy kill put Bentley in front and a Lion attack error gave the fourth-seeded Falcons a 2-1 lead.

In game four, Georgian Court overcame a 25-22 deficit with a game-ending 9-4 run, scoring the final two points on a kill and an attack error.

Casado, the CACC Player of the Year, led Georgian Court with 22 kills, 18 digs, a .391 hitting percentage and two aces. Sophomore Lisamary Figueroa (Toa Alta, P.R.) just missed a triple double, finishing with nine kills, 33 assists and 14 digs.

Sadowski, the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, led Bentley with 20 kills at a .412 attack percentage, while Harrahy and Alex Kearney each followed with 16 kills.
