BLOOMFIELD'S PEREZ GARNERS ACADEMIC HONOR FROM ESPN THE MAGAZINE

Bloomfield, NJ - Junior setter Sonia Perez has become the first student-athlete at Bloomfield College to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors. Perez, a criminal justice major from San Jose, Costa Rica by way of Hackensack, NJ and a graduate of Hackensack High (2005) has been selected to the All-District Third Team for the District 2 College Division. Perez is also the only Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's volleyball player to earn the honor this year.

Perez entered the 2007 fall semester sporting a 3.57 GPA and has been selected to the Dean's List every semester (4) since arriving at BC in the fall of 2005.

This honor only adds to a season full of accomplishments for Perez, who set career milestones twice this season, surpassing the 2000 and 3000 career assists marks. Perez was also selected to the All CACC Second Team for the second consecutive year, and led Bloomfield to semifinals in the CACC post season tournament.

This season, in 33 matches, Sonia has tallied 1101 assists (9.57 per game), 43 aces, 354 digs (3.08 per game) and 43 blocks. Perez's 9.57 assists per game average is second best in the CACC.

For her career Sonia has accumulated 3062 assists (10.34 per game), 104 aces, 873 digs, (2.95 per game) and 85 blocks.
