NEW HAVEN, CT - University of the Sciences in Philadelphia freshman Christine Puschak has earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Player of the Week honors after being named Most Valuable Player at the USP Devils Classic over the weekend. Georgian Court University freshman Stephanie Rivera has been named CACC Rookie of the Week.
Puschak, a 6-0 middle hitter from Leola, PA, led USP to a 3-0 week by averaging 3.15 kills per-game at a .326 attack percentage, along with 1.00 blocks per-game. She collected 21 kills against American International and added 11 kills, six service aces and six blocks against Southern Connecticut State.
Rivera, a 6-0 middle hitter from Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, averaged 1.88 kills and 2.41 digs per-game for the week. She recorded a double-double against C.W. Post with 10 kills and 11 digs and added 14 digs against Bentley.
Honorable Mention
Ann Casado, Georgian Court (Jr., OH, 5-6, Brick, NJ) - Averaged 2.93 kills and 1.06 digs per-game in a 1-3 week.
Theresa Hanneman, Dominican (Jr., OH, 5-11, Pearl River, NY) - Averaged 3.57 kills, 1.00 digs and 0.57 blocks per-game in two matches.
Kerri Smith, Post (Jr., OH, Smithtown, NY) - Posted averages of 2.44 kills and 1.67 digs per-game in three matches.
CACC Volleyball NotesGeorgian Court - Ann Casado reached her 1,000th kill milestone. The Lions open their CACC schedule against Chestnut Hill College Thursday evening in Lakewood. This will be the first contest of the season for the Griffins and their first meeting with the Lions.
Post - Junior Kerri Smith enters the week needing 16 digs to reached the 1,000-dig plateau. She also needs 11 kills for 700 in her career. Senior Vicky Ducharme needs 50 digs for 1,000 in her career. Post begins a four-match homestand on Monday, as in-state rival Southern Connecticut State pays a visit to the Drubner Center.
USP - The Devils went 3-0 in their own Devils Classic this past weekend, defeating a pair of NE-10 teams (AIC, and Southern Connecticut State) in two thrilling five game matches. This was the first time USP recorded a perfect record in the three year history of this tournament (1-2 in 2005 and 0-3 in 2006). Christine Puschak and Claire Tauschek were named to the All-Tournament team at this weekend's Devils Classic with Puschak garnering MVP honors. Ladonna Landmesser recorded her 2,000th career assist in the Devils match against Caldwell on 9/7.
