CASADO AND SCHERRER SELECTED TO AVCA ALL-REGION VOLLEYBALL TEAM

NEW HAVEN, CT – Ann Casado of Georgian Court University and Maria Scherrer of Holy Family University were selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Northeast Region team in an announcement made today. The AVCA honored 12 student-athletes from each of the eight regions throughout the country.


Casado, a junior outside hitter from Brick, NJ, was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year for the second consecutive season in 2007. She ranked third in the CACC in hitting percentage (.291) and kills per-game (3.95) and second in service aces per-game (0.71). Casado led the Lions to their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament and led the team with 22 kills and 18 digs in a tough 3-2 loss to Bentley. Georgian Court was the No. 5 seed for the tournament after winning the CACC Tournament Championship over Holy Family by a 3-1 count. The Lions went undefeated in CACC regular-season play at 18-0 and finished the season 30-9 overall.

Scherrer, a freshman libero from Hebron, KY, made an immediate impact for the Tigers and was named to the All-CACC first team. She helped the Tigers reach the CACC Tournament championship and recorded 37 digs in the match. For her efforts, she earned a spot on the All-Tournament team. For the season, Scherrer led the conference with 6.87 digs per-game and set CACC single-season records for total digs (900) and digs per-game. Scherrer helped the Tigers finish third in the CACC's South Division with a 14-4 record to go with an 18-21 overall mark.
