PHILADELPHIA TO SERVE AS TOP SEED FOR CACC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

October 28, 2006

NEW HAVEN, CT - Philadelphia University will serve as the top seed for the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Tournament. The Rams garnered the top seed after winning a coin-flip tie-breaker Saturday afternoon over Georgian Court University.

Philadelphia and Georgian Court split their two regular-season meetings and tied with 15-1 records atop the CACC standings, therefore the top seed was decided via coin flip. The Rams were 23-2 overall this year and the Lions finished with an 18-10 mark.

Bloomfield earned the third seed after going 13-3 in the CACC and 14-7 overall. The Lady Deacons will host the sixth seed, Post University, in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in Bloomfield. The match is set to begin at 7:00 pm. The Eagles finished with an 8-8 conference record and an 11-16 overall mark this season.

Goldey-Beacom will also host a quarterfinal game on Wednesday after wrapping up the fourth seed with a 12-4 conference mark along with a 13-12 overall record. The Lightning will face conference rival Wilmington College, the #5 seed, in a 7:00 pm match. The Wildcats were 8-8 in conference play and 8-21 for the season.

Philadelphia will face the winner of the Goldey-Beacom and Wilmington game in the first of two semifinal matches on Friday, Nov. 3rd, at Bobby Morgan Arena on the campus of USP. The match will begin at 6:00 pm. Georgian Court will meet either Bloomfield or Post at 8:00 pm on Friday.

The Championship match is set for 1:00 pm on Saturday, Nov. 4th, at Bobby Morgan Arena. The winner of the tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships.
