PHILADELPHIA, PA - Claire Tauschek became just the third player in school history to record 1,000 career digs as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball contest to Georgian Court University 3-0 last night in Lakewood, New Jersey.

The Lions took the first game, 30-24 and followed with a 30-25 win in game two, before taking the third game 30-18. The loss drops the Devils record to 8-16 overall and 5-10 in league play.

Tauschek (So., Middleton HS/Verona, Wis.) entered the game needing four digs to reach the 1,000 mark. The sophomore libero reached the mark midway through the first game as the Devils trailed 13-5. Claire finished the game with a match-high 30 digs and now has 1,026 for her career. This was her fourth 30-dig match of the season and seventh of her career, tying her for the all-time mark for 30-dig matches with USP's all-time dig leader, Emily Roth.

Andrea Cardine (Fr., Reading Central Catholic/ Temple, Pa.) led the Devils with seven kills. Tauschek had 30 digs while Cardine and Lindsey Wenderoth (Jr., Owings Mills HS/Reisterstown, Md.) added 13 and 12 respectively. Olja Marjanovic (Jr., Chaminade-Madonna Prep/North Miami Beach, Fla.) led all players with six service aces.

The Lions were paced by Ann Casado, Janelle Murdock and Lissette Zayas with eight kills apiece. Defensively Rebecca Walczak led Georgian Court with 27 digs while Zayas had 11.

In game one, the Devils trailed 6-5 before the Lions scored the next eight points to take a 14-5 lead. A 6-2 Lion run followed and Georgian held a 20-7 lead. USP countered with a 7-1 run to pull within seven 21-14 and later cut the deficit to five 26-21. Both teams exchanged points over the next six rallies before the Lions forced a sideout to take the first game 30-24.

The Lions jumped out to a 10-5 lead in game two before the Devils rallied to pull within two 11-9. USP still trailed by two 12-10 before the Lions went on an 11-2 run to take a 21-12 lead. A 5-2 run by the Devils brought USP within six 23-17. A kill by Marjanovic made the score 26-21 as both teams exchanged points over the final eight rallies as the Lions came away with a 30-25 win.

In the third game Georgian Court jumped out to an early lead as the Devils rallied to tie the game at 4-4. The Lions then scored the next four points to take an 8-4 lead. The Lions still led 11-6 before they went on a 7-0 run to increase the lead to 12, 18-6 en route to the 30-18 win.
