BLOOMFIELD AND GOLDEY-BEACOM ADVANCE TO VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Bloomfield College and Goldey-Beacom College have advanced to the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Tournament with victories in Wednesday's quarterfinal round. Bloomfield upended Post, 3-0, while Goldey-Beacom defeated Wilmington, 3-2.

Goldey-Beacom advances to face top seed Philadelphia University (24-3) at 6:00 pm on Friday, Nov. 4, at USP's Bobby Morgan Arena. The Deacons move on to face second seed Georgian Court University (19-10) on Friday at 8:00 pm. The winners will meet on Saturday at 1:00 pm.

The Deacons, the #3 seed for the tournament, won by scores of 30-24, 30-19 and 30-29 in their win over the sixth-seeded Eagles. Newly named CACC Rookie of the Year, Ursula Pereira, led the way with 17 kills, 13 digs and five block assists for Bloomfield (15-8), while Nilmara Zanette contributed 10 kills and 18 digs.

Senior first team All-CACC performer Tadj Williams led Post (12-17) with 12 kills, while sophomore Kerry Smith added seven kills and 22 digs.

In the other semifinal match, the home-standing Lightning won a five-set marathon over Wilmington, 30-16, 28-30, 30-17, 26-30 and 15-5. Junior middle hitter and second team All-Conference selection Ashley Carberry exploded for a match-high 27 kills at a .290 attack percentage, while adding five digs and seven total blocks to lead Goldey-Beacom. Five players from Goldey-Beacom (14-12) notched double-figure digs, led by Tessa Snyder's 24. Danielle Hicks dished out 58 assists and added 13 digs and five blocks to help the cause for the Lightning.

Kristie Shropshire led Wilmington (8-24) with 10 kills and 17 digs, while Shannon Freel led the team with 22 digs.
