GEORGIAN COURT DRAWS DOWLING IN NCAA VOLLEYBALL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

NEW HAVEN - Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Champion Georgian Court University will face Dowling College in the opening round of the 2006 NCAA Division II Volleyball Northeast Region Tournament, it was announced on Sunday evening. The Lions won the CACC title on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Philadelphia University and Dowling won the East Coast Conference Championship with a 3-0 win against the University of New Haven.

The Lions and Golden Lions will meet on Thursday, Nov. 9th at the University of New Haven in West Haven, CT, at 2:30 pm. Georgian Court, which is the eighth seed, enters the tournament with a 21-10 overall record , while Dowling is 33-6 and ranked first in the region.

A field of 64 teams was released on Sunday, with eight teams selected from each of the following regions to participate in the championship: Atlantic, Great Lakes, North Central, Northeast, Pacific, South, South Central and Southwest.

Eight eight-team regionals will be played at on-campus sites. Regional competition will be single-elimination, best three-of-five game matches and will not include a third-place match. The winners of each of the eight regionals will advance to the finals, November 16-18, at the NCAA Division II Fall Championships Festival held on the campus of the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. Competition at the finals site will be single-elimination, best three-of-five game matches.

On December 3, 2005, the Grand Valley State Lakers won their first Division II Women's Volleyball Championship by defeating Nebraska-Kearney, breaking the Lopers' 66-match home winning streak. Grand Valley State won the championship in four games: 30-18, 30-27, 25-30 and 30-24.
