PHILADELPHIA AND GEORGIAN COURT SET TO PLAY FOR CACC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Philadelphia University and Georgian Court University have advanced to the championship match of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Tournament after earning victories in tonight's semifinal round at USP's Bobby Morgan Arena. The top-seeded Rams defeated #4 Goldey-Beacom, 3-0, while #2 Georgian Court upended #3 Bloomfield, 3-0. The championship match is set for 1:00 pm Saturday. The winner will receive the CACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament.

The Rams defeated the Lightning by scores of 30-22, 30-21 and 30-24. The Rams were led by junior first team All-CACC performer, Emily Krauss, who tallied 16 kills at a .316 percentage and seven digs. Sophomore middle hitter Molly Malone, also a first team All-Conference pick, added eight kills at a .412 percentage and three blocks. As a team, Philadelphia (25-3) hit .287, while the Lightning hit just .089.

Junior middle hitter Ashley Carberry and senior outside hitter Stephanie Rosado led Goldey-Beacom (14-13) with 10 kills each, while junior Adrienne Melvin contributed nine kills and a team-high nine digs.

In the second match of the night, the Lions won by scores of 30-28, 30-27 and 30-18. Georgian Court (20-10) was led by CACC Player of the Year Ann Casado's 21 kills at a .486 attack percentage. Casado added 10 assists and two block assists. Freshman Lissette Zayas contributed seven kills and a team-high 15 digs for the Lions, who hit .290 as a team.

Bloomfield (15-10) was paced by senior outside hitter Juruena Silveira and sophomore outside hitter Ursula Pereira, who each tallied 12 kills. Pereira added eight digs, which tied Maggie Bialek for the most on the team.
