WEST HAVEN, CT - Georgian Court University completed their monumental 2006 season at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Tournament Thursday afternoon at the University of New Haven. The Lions, seeded #8 in the tournament, were defeated by #1 Dowling College in three games (17-30, 25-30, 15-30). The Lions conclude the season with a 21-11 record.

Sophomore Angie Casado (Brick, NJ/Brick) led the Lions tallying eight kills and seven assists. Freshman Janelle Murdock (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) contributed six kills, while sophomore Claudimary Rivera (Carolina, PR/Catolica) and freshman Joann Zayas (Naranjito, PR/Naranjito) registered five kills apiece in the loss.

It was junior Rebecca Walczak (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) that fought to keep the Lions alive digging up 11 of Dowling's attacks along with freshman Lisamary Figueroa (Toa Alta, PR/Bayamon Military Academy), who had eight digs.

Nikki Armstrong led Dowling (34-6) with 14 kills at a .500 attack percentage and Justyna Michon added 11 kills and four digs.

This was the first NCAA Tournament berth for the Lions in school history, having only become an intercollegiate sport in 2002. Georgian Court has improved steadily over the past four years, having gone from 4-20 overall in 2002 to 21-11 overall and 15-1 in conference play this season. The Lions shared the CACC regular-season title with Philadelphia University after finishing in seventh place (11-11) last year.
