WILMINGTON AND GEORGIAN COURT ADVANCE TO VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS

November 8, 2005

NEW HAVEN (November 8, 2005) Wilmington College and Georgian Court University have advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Tournament semifinals with fist-round victories tonight. Wilmington, the fourth seed, edged #5 Bloomfield, 3-2, while #6 Georgian Court upset #3 Post by a 3-0 score.

Wilmington advances to face top-seed Goldey-Beacom on Friday, Nov. 11, at 8:00 pm, while GCU (14-15) will play against #2 University of Sciences in Philadelphia at 6:00 pm. The semifinals and finals of the tournament will be held at USP.

The Wildcats' (15-20) thrilling 3-2 victory came by scores of 30-19, 26-30, 31-33, 30-24 and 15-7. The Wildcats were paced by junior Kristin Wiedeman who recorded 23 kills and a match high 31 digs. Freshman Denise Mentis added a career high 22 kills to go along with her five digs and four blocks.

Bloomfield (14-14) was led by Jureuena Silveira's 35 kills and 19 digs. Silveira was named CACC co-Player of the Week earlier in the day. Nilmara Zanette added eight kills, 23 digs, and three aces.

The Lions won their first-ever CACC playoff game by a convincing 3-0 (30-25, 30-28, 30-13) score over the Eagles.

Tadj Williams, who was the other co-CACC Player of the Week this week, had a game-high 16 kills for Post (18-17) to go along with 11 digs. Billeny Rivera led a balanced GCU assault with 11 kills and seven digs.

The difference in the match was the attacking percentage. GCU swung at a .250 clip with only 10 errors. Post made 20 errors and swung .107.
