WILMINGTON AND POST TOP CACC PRESEASON VOLLEYBALL POLL

August 24, 2005

NEW HAVEN ? Defending regular-season and conference tournament champion Wilmington College has been selected as the favorite in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference preseason volleyball poll, according to a vote conducted by the league?s 12 head coaches. The Wildcats edged second-place finisher, Post University, by just a single point in the poll.

Wilmington, which has won 64 consecutive regular-season conference matches, grabbed seven of the 12 first- place votes and 127 total points. The Wildcats compiled a 27-9 overall mark in 2004, along with a perfect 20-0 conference record, and received the CACC?s first automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Post picked up 126 total points and one first-place vote in the poll and went 29-12 overall and 17-3 in conference play last year. The Eagles concluded the season by advancing to the ECAC Tournament semifinals.

Goldey-Beacom College finished third in the poll with 109 points and one first-place vote, while New Jersey Institute of Technology was close behind in the fourth spot with 102 points and two first-place nods. University of the Sciences in Philadelphia garnered 95 points to finish fifth in the voting, and Georgian Court University claimed the final first-place vote and finished seventh in the poll.

Wilmington lost the services of 2004 Player of the Year Julia Atkins, but the defending champs will welcome back two All-CACC performers in second team picks Angela Estep and Kristin Wiedeman. Tadj Williams, a 2004 first team All-CACC pick from Post, returns for the Eagles in 2005.
