ROTH NAMED TO 2005 ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL TEAM

PHILADELPHIA, PA - University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's volleyball player Emily Roth (Dallastown High School/York, PA) was named today to the 2005 ESPN-The Magazine College Division Academic All-District 2 Volleyball Team.
For the second consecutive year, Roth was named as a first team selection in balloting done by CoSIDA District 2 sports information directors.
The District 2 College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and District of Columbia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a minimum 3.20 grade point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team. As a first team selection, Roth will now be on the national ballot for the ESPN-The Magazine Academic All-America Volleyball Team which is scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, November 30, 2005.
Roth, a pharmacy major pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia is in her fourth season of play for the Devils. Emily currently boasts a 3.93 grade point average.
As an outside hitter, Roth was honored as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week four times this season (September 6, October 10, October 24 and October 31, 2005). Emily was also named the ECAC Player of the Week twice this season (October 26 and November 2, 2005)
The former Dallastown High School athlete currently leads the Devils in hitting (.338), kills (563) and kills/game (5.12). Roth ranks second in the CACC in attack% and kills/game and ninth in digs/game. Her 563 kills are a USP single season record. Earlier this season, Emily became USP's all-time leader in kills and now has 1,509 for her career. She is the first volleyball player in school history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs for their career. Emily's 1,857 career digs place her 17th on the NCAA's all-time Division II list. Roth currently holds 24 USP career, season and single match records.
Roth has been named to the Dean's List in each of her six previous semesters at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. She is a member of the USP Student Athletic Advisory Committee and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
