PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER NAMES ROTH ACADEMIC ALL-AREA VOLLEYBALL PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

PHILADELPHIA - University of the Sciences senior outside hitter Emily Roth has been named the 2005 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Volleyball Performer of the Year. Roth is one of 10 student-athletes selected to the first-ever Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Volleyball Team. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Roth (Dallastown High School/York, PA), who was recently named an ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-America College Division selection, helped her team finish with a 19-13 record. Roth averaged 5.16 kills and 4.12 digs per game in 32 matches for USP. Roth was named the CACC Player of the Year and she is a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection. Roth was recently named to the Daktronics All-Northeast Region Team as a second team selection and was an honorable mention pick for the AVCA All-Region Team. Emily was a four-time CACC Player of the Week and was named to the CACC All-tournament volleyball team. In addition, Roth was twice named ECAC Player of the Week.

The York, Pa. native led the Devils in kills with 598 and finished second in the CACC in attack percentage (.335) and kills per game (5.12). Roth is the USP career leader in kills (1,544), digs (1,880), matches played (112) and games (399). Roth ranks 15th on the all-time NCAA Division II digs list. Off the field she has been equally sensational, compiling a 3.93 cumulative grade point averages as a pharmacy major. She has earned Dean's List status in all six semesters.

The former Dallastown High School Athlete is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of the Sciences and has completed her fourth and final year of play for the Devils.

Roth is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Volleyball team by Rachel Chizmadia of Widener, Kim Feeney and Kacie Green of Cabrini, Heidi Jutsum and Samantha Thompson of Haverford, Celine Nguyen and Adrian Semrau of Villanova, and Abby Means of La Salle and Megan Veale of Lincoln.
