GOLDEY-BEACOM AND USP ADVANCE TO CACC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 11, 2005) Goldey-Beacom College and the University of Sciences in Philadelphia will battle for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Tournament Championship after each earned victories in tonight's semifinal matches at Bobby Morgan Arena on the USP campus. The top-seeded Lightning defeated #4 Wilmington College, 3-0 (30-18, 30-26, 30-24), while #2 USP swept #6 Georgian Court, 3-0 (31-29, 30-28, 30-24).

The championship match will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday.

Goldey-Beacom, which went 20-2 in conference play during the regular-season, was led by sophomore Ashley Carberry's 15 kills and five blocks. Kendra Russell added eight kills and five blocks and Norah Burdette contributed seven kills and three blocks. The Lightning are now 24-6 overall this season.

Wilmington (14-21) was led by Denise Mentis, who compiled 13 kills, while Kristin Wiedeman added 10 kills and four digs.

In the first match of the day, USP (15-8) was led by Emily Roth's 17 kills and 13 digs, while Lindsey Wenderoth added 15 kills and six digs. Claudimary Rivera led Georgian Court (12-12) with 13 kills and 14 digs and Alicia Scott contributed eight kills.

The 3-0 final score was not representative of how close the match was, as each game went down to the wire. In the first game, USP was able to take a commanding 26-17 lead, but the Lions made things interesting by rallying to tie the game at 29. However, USP regrouped and took the final two points to win the game, 31-29. The teams reversed roles in game two, as GCU looked to be in control with a 25-20 lead. USP responded with a comeback of its own, which led to a 30-28 win, and with it a 2-0 lead in the match.
