WILMINGTON WINS CACC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Wildcats Earn League’s First Automatic Qualifier

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The top-seeded Wilmington (Del.) College women’s volleyball team won the 2004 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship with a 3-1 (30-15 30-25 25-30 31-29) title match victory over Post University on Saturday afternoon at Dominican (N.Y.) College’s Hennessy Center. With the victory, Wilmington earns the CACC’s first automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division II Regional.

After extending the match with its Game 3 victory, No. 2 seed Post (29-11) saved three match points in Game 4. At 29-29, Wilmington (27-8) took the final two points. Tournament Most Valuable Player Angie Estep finished with 42 assists and 15 digs for the Wildcats.

Wilmington outhit the Eagles, .210-124, including .220-.000 in the first two games. Kristin Wiedeman had 18 kills and 14 digs and Lauren DiSabatino added 17 kills. Post’s Tadj Williams led all hitters with 22 kills and 19 digs and Jennifer Giarratano had 14 kills and 23 digs.

The NCAA Northeast Regional begins either Thursday or Friday at the site of the No. 1 seed. Post has applied for a berth in the ECAC Division II playoffs.
