Lakewood, NJ?New Jersey Institute of Technology scored an impressive 3-1 win over CACC-rival Georgian Court University tonight, by scores of 32-30, 30-23, 25-30, 30-24. The match was the first of two season contests between the two squads, pitting two pairs of family members at odds for the evening. GCU first year Head Coach Francisco Casado coached for the first time against his daughter, NJIT freshman Angie Casado (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.), while GCU Assistant Coach Emin Tanrikulu plotted against younger sister Kubra Tanrikulu (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), another Highlander freshman.

NJIT managed to stay on top of the host Lions for the first two sets as Casado, who finished with a game-high 18 kills and 5 service aces, tallied 6 kill markers in the first contest. Tanrikulu chimed in with 8 kills on the night, scoring 4 aces and a team-high 13 digs.

GCU worked its way back to win game 3 of the match, riding the performance of senior Sherry Keech (Glencoe, Ontario/Glencoe District), who tallied 16 kills and 3 blocks. Alicia Scott (Pt. Pleasant Boro, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) and Jade Reid (Brampton, Ontario/N. Park Secondary) added 6 kills apiece.

The victory jumped NJIT to a record of 9-7 overall and 9-6 in CACC play. They currently place 5th in the CACC Standings. GCU, who entered the game 6th in the standings fell to 6-13, 5-8. The top six teams will participate in the CACC Post-Season Tournament beginning in November.
