Roth Named to 2004 CoSIDA Academic All District Volleyball Team

PHILADELPHIA, PA ? University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women?s volleyball player Emily Roth was named today to the 2004 CoSIDA College Division Academic All-District II Volleyball Team.

Roth (Jr., Dallastown High School/York, PA) was named as a first team selection in balloting done by District II sports information directors.

The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and District of Columbia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a minimum 3.20 grade point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team. As a first team selection, Roth will now be on the national ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Volleyball Team which is scheduled to be announced on Thursday, December 2, 2004.

Roth, a pharmacy major pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia is in her third season of play for the Devils. Emily currently boasts a 3.921 grade point average.

As an outside hitter, Roth was honored by the conference four times this season. Emily was named CACC Player of the Week for the week ending October 4, 2004 and was named to the CACC Volleyball Honor Roll for the weeks ending September 13, 2004, October 18, 2004 and October 25, 2004.

The former Dallastown High School athlete led the Devils in hitting (.237), kills (417), kills/game (3.50), digs (581), and digs per game (4.88). Roth ranks second in the CACC in digs/game, fifth in kills/game and tenth in hitting. Her 581 digs and 417 kills are USP single season records. Earlier this season, Emily became the first volleyball player in school history to record 1,000 career digs and now has 1,313 for her career.

Roth has been named to the Dean?s List in each of her four previous semesters at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. She is a member of the USP Student Athletic Advisory Committee and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
