NJIT Volleyball Loses Pair of Tight Matches

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The NJIT women's volleyball team opened CACC play by losing both ends of a Saturday tri-match, 3-0 to host University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and 3-2 to Bloomfield College, at Morgan Arena. Five of the six games NJIT lost on the day were by the minimum two points.

The afternoon opened with a 30-28 30-25 32-30 setback to USP. Freshman Angie Casado led all hitters with 29 kills, classmate Ashley Craig posted 45 assists and freshman Lizzie Kreher had 18 digs. All three totals were Division-II school records. Casado added 11 digs for a double-double.

In the day's second match, the Highlanders took a 2-0 lead before falling 23-30 27-30 30-28 30-28 15-13. Casado hit .429 with 33 kills, and Craig set 55 more assists to break their D-II school marks. Kubra Tanrikulu added 10 kills, nine digs and six aces. The Highlanders started six freshmen for the first time this season.
