OLIVEIRA PICKS UP WOMEN'S TENNIS WEEKLY HONORS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Cristina Oliveira of Concordia College has picked up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 11. Vanessa leon Valasquez of Goldey-Beacom College was named Rookie of the Week.

Oliveira, a 5-4 senior from Porto Allegre, Brazil, stayed undefeated in singles this week with victories over the No. 1 singles players from Queens and Fordham. She went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles, with the only loss coming to Queens.

leon Valasquez, a 5-3 freshman from Caracas, Venezuela, went 4-0 at No. 4 singles and 5-0 at No. 2 doubles to help the Lightning go 5-0 last week and clinch the No. 2 seed for the upcoming CACC Tournament.

Honorable Mention

Daniela Rodriguez, Philadelphia (Jr., 5-6, Quito, Ecuador) - Went 3-1 combined last week at No. 1 singles and doubles.

Marina Sales, Goldey-Beacom (So., 5-4, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) - Notched a 5-0 record at No. 2 singles and was 3-2 in No. 1 doubles last week.

Ola Roberts, Concordia (Jr., 5-7, Bucharest, Romania) - Stayed undefeated in singles after winning matches against Fordham and Queens.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars won their first dual of the season on Wednesday, defeating Post 6-3. Sophomore Olga Ndhlovu and junior Kirsty Leedham earned victories at singles and doubles.

Concordia - The Clippers enter their first CACC semi-final match as the #1 seed. They will host #4 seed Philadelphia University on Tuesday, October 13th at 3:00pm.

Georgian Court - After losing five of their final six matches, the GCU Lions did not qualify for the CACC Team Championship for the first time since the tournament's inception. The Lions will have representatives at next week's (10/16) CACC Individuals Championship.



Goldey-Beacom - The Lightning are on a five-game win streak heading into CACC Tournament play.

Philadelphia - PhilaU went 1-1 on the week, dropping its match against Holy Family but picking up a victory over CACC opponent Chestnut Hill College. Junior #1 Daniela Rodriguez went 3-1 on the week. This week the Lady Rams get ready for the team CACC Championship semi-final match-up against Concordia College (10/13), and then they will focus on the CACC Individual Championships starting (10/16).

USP - The Devils concluded the regular season with a fifth-place finish in the CACC and a 4-4 conference record, one win better than they did last season. Freshman Sara Durham (Bridgeton, NJ) led the Devils this season with a 7-7 singles record. The doubles team of Laney Jones (Blakeslee, Pa.) and Juliet Choi (New City, N.Y.) had a 6-5 doubles record to pace USP's doubles efforts.
