DANIELA RODRIGUEZ NAMED WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, CT - Daniela Rodriguez of Philadelphia University has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches through Monday, Sept. 7. Holy Family University's Jin Querubin picked up Rookie of the Week honors.

Rodriguez, a junior from Quito, Ecuador, went 3-0 at No. 1 singles to start the 2009 season. She earned wins over the No. 1 players from Chestnut Hill, Holy Family and Cabrini.

Querubin, a freshman from Mississauga, Ontario, won her No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-2) and No. 1 doubles (8-2) matches versus Philadelphia last week in her first collegiate action.

Honorable Mention

Melanie Pulsinelli, Holy Family (Sr., Levittown, PA) - Won both matches against Philadelphia at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Erin Andersen, Chestnut Hill (Jr., 5-6, Canton, CT) - Went 1-1 at No. 1 singles and 1-1 at No. 1 doubles to lead the Griffins last week.

CACC Notes

Chestnut Hill - Senior Erin Andersen (Canton, Conn.) and freshman Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) led Chestnut Hill against Molloy on Monday. Anderson and Knott teamed for a win at number one doubles before taking the top two singles flights, respectively. The Griffins attempted to rally from a 2-1 doubles deficit, but Molloy protected their home courts by splitting the singles matches for a 5-4 victory.

Georgian Court - The Lions play back-to-back matches next week on Tuesday (at Dowling) and Wedneday (vs. Chestnut Hill). GCU closes out the week with a home match against the CACC's newest school, Concordia College, on Saturday afternoon.

Holy Family - The Holy Family women's tennis team won its opener of the season against Philadelphia University, 6-3, on August 31. Jin Querubin (#2), Melanie Pulsinelli (#3), Liana Lui (#4) and Linda Piecyk (#5) all won their respective singles matches. Juliana Victoria and Querubin (#1) and Pulsinelli and Lui (#2) won the doubles matches. The Tigers next matches will take place this weekend at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday and at Merrimack on Sunday.

Philadelphia - The Lady Rams are off to a 2-1 start this season, after losing #1 singles player Adriana Rodriguez to transfer. Junior Daniela Rodriguez has made the transition to the #1 spot, going 3-0 so far. PhilaU hosts USP (9/12) at 12:00 p.m. for their first CACC match of the year.
