NEW HAVEN, CT - Adriana Rodriguez of Philadelphia University has been tabbed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 12. Laney Jones of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia was named Rookie of the Week.
Rodriguez, a 5-3 sophomore from San Juan, Puerto Rico, did not give up a single set this week as the Lady Rams went 3-0 to clinch the CACC regular-season championship. She went 13-2 at No. 1 singles during the regular-season.
Jones, a 5-7 freshman from Blakeslee, PA, posted a 4-1 record at No. 6 singles last week. She also won her final three No. 2 doubles matches of the week to help the Devils get their only three conference wins of the season.
Honorable Mention
Luisiana Souto, Goldey-Beacom (So., 5-8, Caracus, Venezuela) - Went 3-0 at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the week.
Melanie Pulsinelli, Holy Family (Jr., 5-8, Levittown, PA) - Went 3-0 in No. 3 singles last week and 3-1 at No. 2 doubles.
CACC Team Notes
Georgian Court - After losing at Philadelphia University, 9-0, on Sunday, the #4 seed Lions return to face the #1 seed Lady Rams on Tuesday in the first round of the CACC Team Championships.
Philadelphia - The Lady Rams have not lost a team match since
September 4th, currently on a 12-match win streak. Sophomore #1
singles Adriana Rodriguez has been solid this year, helping her
squad to a 12-2 overall record along with sophomore teammate #2
singles Daniela Rodriguez and freshman #3 singles Christina
Brzozowoski.
USP - Laney Jones finished the season with an 8-1 record in singles
competition all at #6 singles. USP won its final three matches of
the season to finish the fall with a 4-5 overall record. The Devils
will miss the CACC playoffs for the first time since their
inception.
