NEW HAVEN, CT - Two-time defending CACC regular-season and tournament champion, Holy Family University, is the unanimous choice to win the 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's tennis regular-season championship according to a preseason poll released today. The Tigers went undefeated in conference play in each of the past two seasons. Philadelphia University was next after being selected second on every ballot. The eight CACC head coaches conducted the voting.

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia was picked third by the coaches with 44 points, while Georgian Court University was right behind with 42 points. Chestnut Hill College rounded out the top five with 29 points. Goldey-Beacom College (27), Caldwell College (18) and Post University (8) concluded the poll.

Holy Family went 15-6 overall last year and returns five of its top six players from that team, including All-Conference performer Quena Borres. Borres, a senior, was part of a duo that placed second at last season's CACC Tournament doubles competition. Borres also advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles event, along with junior Melanie Pulsinelli and senior Liana Lui. The Tigers played in the Division II NCAA Regional Tournament for the second consecutive season before falling to No. 3 Slippery Rock.

Philadelphia collected 56 points after being picked second on every ballot. The Lady Rams went 17-7 last year and 6-1 in conference action and earned a berth into the NCAA Regional. Despite losing 2007 CACC Player of the Year, Maddie Smith, the team welcomes back five players who saw significant action last season. Topping the list is the sophomore duo of Daniela and Adriana Rodriguez. Daniela went 15-5 at No. 2 singles last season, while Adriana compiled a sterling 19-1 mark at No. 3. In addition, Adriana teamed with Smith to capture the 2007 CACC doubles championship.

USP garnered 44 points to finish third in the poll after going 7-4 last season and 4-2 in CACC play. The Devils return five of their top six players from last year. Georgian Court will have the services of three players who saw time in the regular lineup last season. The Lions went 7-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play in 2007.

Sophomore Luisiana Souto returns to lead Goldey-Beacom after playing for the CACC singles championship last season. Souto went 10-1 at No. 1 singles in her debut season for the Lightning, earning CACC Rookie of the Year accolades.
