HOLY FAMILY HEADS TO CACC WOMEN'S TENNIS TOURNAMENT AS TOP SEED

October 10, 2007

NEW HAVEN, CT - Defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Champion, Holy Family University, has secured the top seed for the 2007 CACC Women's Tennis Tournament, which will be played this weekend at Philadelphia University. The Tigers went 6-0 in regular-season conference play and 10-1 overall. The rest of the four-team tournament is composed of second seeded Philadelphia University, No. 3 USP and fourth-seed Georgian Court University.

Philadelphia and USP will open the tournament with a semifinal match at 10:00 am on Friday, Sept. 12th. Holy Family and Georgian Court will meet in the second semifinal match at approximately 2:00 pm. The championship match is set for noon on Saturday, Sept. 13th. All matches will be played on Philadelphia's Main Campus Courts. The conference champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2007-08 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships. Regional tournaments will be held on May 8-10 on campus sites.

This year's tournament will have a familiar feel as the same four teams also battled for the 2006 championship. Furthermore, Holy Family, USP and Georgian Court have appeared in all three tournaments since its inception in 2005. Holy Family defeated Philadelphia in last year's championship match by a score of 6-1. USP got past Georgian Court, 6-3, to capture the 2005 title.

In Friday's first match, Philadelphia will take on a USP team it defeated on Oct. 6 by an 8-1 count. Philadelphia compiled a 12-3 overall record this year and a 6-1 mark in CACC action. USP went 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the CACC.

Holy Family and Georgian Court met on Sept. 20, with the Tigers coming out on top, 9-0. Holy Family earned a 6-0 conference record this year to go with a 10-1 overall mark. Georgian Court enters the tournament 7-8 overall, along with a 4-3 conference record.

The Tigers return five players who participated in last year's event, while the Lady Rams have three of its players back. USP returns five players, while Georgian Court will feature three returning players. Holy Family, Philadelphia and USP all return their top singles player from last year in seniors Lauren Neill, Maddie Smith and Amanda Bedway.
