HOLY FAMILY AND PHILADELPIA CHOSEN TO PLAY AT NCAA WOMEN'S TENNIS REGIONAL

May 1, 2008

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Holy Family University will be the sixth seed at the NCAA East Region Women's Tennis Tournament and Philadelphia University has claimed the No. 7 seed. The event will take place on Thursday, May 8 to Saturday, May 10 in Smithfield, R.I.

Holy Family has an overall record of 15-5 and won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament. The Tigers will face third seed Slippery Rock University (20-3). The Rock is the runner-up from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Slippery Rock defeated Holy Family on April 19, 5-1, in Philadelphia, Pa.

The winner of the match will face either second seed and host institution Bryant University (23-2) or seventh seed Philadelphia in the second round. Bryant won the Northeast-10, while Philadelphia was the runner-up in the CACC. The Lady Rams are 17-6 this season and went 6-1 in the CACC. Three of Philadelphia's losses this season came to Holy Family.

The winner of the regional will take on the winner of the Valdosta State (Ga.) region in Houston, Texas. North Alabama and Tuskegee join Valdosta State in the regional.

Last year, Holy Family made the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament, falling to California (Pa.) in the opening round.
