Chestnut Hill's Lauren Brown Selected As Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – (Dec. 12, 2011) – Senior defender Lauren Brown (Camden, DE) was selected as a 2011 Philadelphia Inquirer Women's Soccer Academic All-Area performer. Nominated, and voted on, by 28-member the sports information offices of the, Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA), the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams recognize Philadelphia area, intercollegiate, student-athletes, sophomore and above, who have maintained at least a 3.2 GPA during their collegiate careers. Brown is the first Griffin to be recognized since Katie Donovan ('09) earned a spot on the 2009 Women's Lacrosse Academic All-Area Team.
As co-captain, Brown helped Chestnut Hill College (9-10, 7-5) to their third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament appearance. The Griffins finished the 2011 regular season 9-9 overall and 7-5 in league play to earn the #5 seed in the CACC Championship Tournament. Brown was a major contributor to the team's accomplishments, starting all 28 games in the Griffin backfield. She was the team's 2010 Most Valuable Player (MVP) after earning First Team All-CACC recognition along with classmate and fellow captain, forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ). In 2009, she was an All-CACC Second Team selection and was the women's soccer team's recipient of the Coach's Award. Academically, the senior psychology major is a member of Phi Sigma Iota (Foreign Language Honor Society). She also earned scholastic recognition on the CACC 2010 Fall All-Academic Team and has earned Chestnut Hill College Academic Honor Roll status for her last four semesters (Fall '09, Spring '10, Fall '10, and Spring '11).
