2008 CACC Women's Soccer Weekly Award Winners
September 2
Player of the Week: Missy Torzewski, Bloomfield
(So., F, 5-3, Glen Gardner, NJ) - Netted four goals in leading
Bloomfield to a 2-0 week to open the season. She found the back of
the net three times in a win over Columbia Union. Torzewski now has
15 career goals, which is a new school record.
Rookie of the Week: Lindsay Fisher, Holy Family
(Fr., D, 5-7, Oakford, PA) - Scored both of Holy Family's
goals for the week against St. Anselm and Franklin Pierce. She led
the team with five shots in the two games.
September 8
Player of the Week: Lauren Riiff, Chestnut Hill
(So., F, 5-2, Clementon, NJ) - Tallied five goals and three
assists for 13 total points in a 2-0 week for the Griffins. She
scored five goals and two assists in an 8-0 win over Lincoln. Her
five goals and 12 total points in the game are both second all-time
in the CACC single-game record book. She added an assist in a 2-0
win over St. Thomas Aquinas.
Rookie of the Week: Kelly Lyons, Georgian Court
(Fr., M, 5-6, Jackson, NJ) - Scored three goals in two games
last week. She found the back of the net twice in a CACC-opening
win against Bloomfield. She also scored GCU's only
goal in a 2-1 loss to New Haven.
September 15
Co-Players of the Week: Kirsten Stallone,
Wilmington (So., F, 5-3, Elkton, MD) and Tara Morey, Chestnut Hill
(So., M, Pittsgrove, NJ) - Stallone notched one goal and two
assists in Wilmington's CACC-opening victory at Post. Morey scored
both of Chestnut Hill's goals in its 2-0 win over Bloomfield.
Rookie of the Week: Marisa Valladares,
Goldey-Beacom (Fr., M, 5-0, Elkton, MD) - Tallied one goal and
three assists in a win over Columbia Union. She scored her team's
first goal and then dished out three assists before halftime.
September 22
Player of the Week: Lindsey Petry, Felician (Sr.,
M, 5-8, Newton, NJ) - Scored two game-winning goals and assisted on
a third in a 3-0 week for the Golden Falcons. Participated in eight
of the nine goals her team scored during the week. Compiled 11
points for the week on three goals and five assists. Had one goal
and two assists against both Chestnut Hill and Bloomfield.
Rookie of the Week: Kendra Ness, Wilmington (So.,
GK, 5-6, Red Lion, PA) - Led Wilmington to a 2-0-1 week by allowing
only two goals and stopping 21 shots, including 12 in a 0-0
double-overtime tie against Philadelphia.
September 29
Player of the Week: Kristee Paknis, Caldwell
(Sr., M, Whiting, NJ) - Exploded for six goals on the week,
including a school-record four goals in a 5-0 win against Felician.
Added two goals against Georgian Court, including the game-tying
goal with 21 seconds left in regulation.
Rookie of the Week: Kelly Lyons, Georgian Court
(Fr., M, Jackson, NJ) - Scored five goals in a 1-0-1 week for the
Lions. Tallied a hat-trick against Goldey-Beacom and added two
goals in a 3-3 tie at Caldwell.
October 6
Player of the Week: Lindsay Hammond, Georgian
Court (Jr., GK, Brunswick, ME) - Went 3-0 last week, including her
second shutout of the season on Sunday with a 1-0 upset of
regionally-ranked Bridgeport. Allowed only two goals and made 21
saves in 279:38 minutes of action for the week.
Rookie of the Week: Kelly Lyons, Georgian Court
(Fr., M, Jackson, NJ) - Found the net three times in leading GCU to
a 3-0 week. Scored the game-winner in a 2-1 victory at Nyack and
scored both goals in a 2-1, overtime win over Post.
October 13
Player of the Week: D.J. Jacobowitz, Felician
(So., F, 5-5, Staten Island, NY) - Tallied 14 points in three
matches behind six goals and two assists. Posted a hat trick in
Felician's first-ever victory over Holy Family, a 4-2 triumph in
Philadelphia. Also recorded one goal and one assist in a loss to
Georgian Court.
Rookie of the Week: Kelly Lyons, Georgian Court
(Fr., M, 5-6, Jackson, NJ) - Registered 12 points in a 2-0 week
with five goals and two assists. Scored the game-winning goal in a
4-3 victory over Felician and also exploded for four goals in a win
over Concordia.
October 20
Player of the Week: Karin Eriksson, Goldey-Beacom
(Fr., M, Stockholm, Sweden) - Scored five goals in a 1-1 week for
the Lightning, including three goals in a 5-3 victory over
Wilmington. She also scored twice in a 4-3 loss to Nyack.
Co-Rookies of the Week: Kelly Lyons, Georgian
Court (Fr., M, 5-6, Jackson, NJ) and Katie Margiotta, Caldwell
(Fr., F, 5-6, Sewell, NJ) - Both scored two goals in two contests
last week. Lyons scored twice in a win over Chestnut Hill, while
Margiotta scored both of Caldwell's goals in a 2-0 triumph over
Bloomfield.
October 27
Player of the Week: D.J. Jacobowitz, Felician
(So., F, 5-5, Staten Island) - Tallied 10 points in a 2-1 week.
Scored the game-winning goal against both Mercy and Goldey-Beacom.
Broke a 10-year old school record for both goals (19) and points
(44) in a season for the Golden Falcons.
Co-Rookies of the Week: Dawn Curry, Holy Family
(Fr., 5-5, F, Pennsville, NJ) and Lauren Riiff, Chestnut Hill (So,
F, 5-2, Clementon, NJ) -Curry recorded five points in a 1-1 week
for the Tigers. Scored one goal and one assist against
Goldey-Beacom. Riiff had five points for the week and assisted on
both goals in a 2-1 win over Wilmington.
November 3
Player of the Week: Rachel Shivers, Post (So., F,
5-6, Vernon, CT) - Registered 14 points on five goals and four
assists in a 2-0 week for the Eagles. She was involved in eight of
her team's 10 goals in two must-win games. Had three goals and
three assists against Goldey-Beacom to clinch a play-off spot for
Post.
Rookie of the Week: Katie Margiotta, Caldwell
(Fr., F, 5-8, Sewell, NJ) - Tallied five points in two games last
week. Recorded two goals and one assist in a 3-1 victory over
Nyack.
November 10
Player of the Week: Lindsay Hammond, Georgian
Court (Jr., GK, Brunswick, ME) - Posted three shutouts to lead the
Lions to the CACC Tournament Championship. Came up with 26 saves in
the three games, including a CACC-record 16 in a 1-0 championship
game victory over Philadelphia.
Rookie of the Week: Candace Seaton, Georgian Court
(Fr., F, Bellport, NY) - Tallied one goal and two assists in three
CACC Tournament games. Dished out two assists in the quarter-finals
against Post and scored the game's only goal in a 1-0 win over Holy
Family in the semi-finals.
